Looking at options to improve forage here.
Bahia grass seed was running about $185/50lb last spring and very limited supplies. Common bermuda $235. I've been asking around and no one seems to know yet locally. Anyone heard any different for this spring?

I'm seeing the same around here. I'm wanting to replant about 3 acres in tif9 but I'm afraid the seed is going to be too expensive. May just plant it in millet.

Millet was 80 dollars a 50 here last year . I would like to plant a few acres for the doves this year . But if its still that high I won't be .

I noticed that winter Rye grass seed had jumped to $30 per bag from $26 last year. Haven't priced out other seed yet. Will probably just plant Bermuda tops and sprigs this year since I have a source.

Pensacola bahia is in--$128/50lbs.
Common bermuda is still over $200/50 lb at my nearest co-op.
They didn't even know what WW/BDahl was.

P Bahia is 2-2.43/ lb around here in bulk. By the bag I'm hearing 128-158.00
Better than last year but still too dang high. I need to put down 1200 lbs in a month or so.

I got a quote for some Wrangler bermuda grass seed a couple of weeks ago from an outfit in Florida, Hancock Feed & Seed in Dade City, that was not too high. It was for 550 pounds of Wrangler bermuda grass seed; the cost was $265/50( with $145 freight shipped to my house). You might check with them. I haven't actually done any business with them just got the quote; I ended up using Stampede bermuda and got it locally for about the same price. Last week at church the guy I bought the Stampede from said he tried to order some more and his supplier is out.

Better than last year is right---after the 2011 drought, very few places here even ordered any because it was going to be so expensive the distributors didn't figure anyone would be willing to pay the high prices--especially not know if the drought was going to continue on into 2012.

Would have bought Tifton9, but they were already sold out at $189/50lb.

TexasGal--I have trouble getting any of the bermudas up and established from seed. Bahia is tried and true here, so I am going to stick with it unless I can find some more affordable BDahl.

Bahia last year was 175-196/50. Year before was 75-95/50. I about dropped a load in my pants when I got prices last year.

What made the seed prices go up so much? Drought? Did we sell a bunch of seed to China? Is this why I see so many guys planting "cattle king" hybrids and oat hay, etc because they can't afford to establish coastal or other grasses? The high price of seed and lack of good rain forecasts sure would convince me that it's pretty risky.

Drought of 2010-2011 is what I was told.

HoustonCutter--I already have a little WWBDahl planted on a fairly high area--it did good considering I planted it in 2010 and the next year was like a desert here.

I'll give Pogue a call BC.
