anyone else..

NOPE I pay a accountant to do mine., that way if the government comes looking for me I have back-up. Plus I dont know the first thing about doing my own taxes.

I don't do my own either, I meant the paperwork to get ready to have them done. Plus dealing with finding a good person to do them. I switched this year, so I am hoping I found a good person to do the taxes for the farm,etc..

A good accountant is very helpful. I hired an idiot once. He got me in a big mess cause he filled out the wrong forms. Took me nearly two years to get it all fixed. I needed a piece of paper he had and he wanted to charge me $15 for a copy but for some reason he changed his mind. Might have been something I said to him. Not sure. ;-) Got a good one now.

I had a retired IRS man that always did my taxes. He got ill and I had to find someone else to do them. The new guy did them for 2 years before I started getting letters from the IRS about things that were done that shouldn't have been and bills to go with them. They won't tell you what you should do, just what you shouldn't have and what you owe for doing it that way. The idiot that made the mistakes, when I confronted him, said to just pay them and they will go away. I went to another accountant and had to pay him to straiten things out. He needed the depreciation schedules from the other guy and this idiot wanted to charge me for them. Like Jo I can't remember what I said, but I left there with the papers and my money.

I do all my own bookkeeping and hire an accountant to do my personal taxes. Sometimes I am at the computer until 3 in the morning just getting everything to balance out for the day. I won't get into all that I dabble in, but when you have many dealings it can really be a pain. Take a break for a day or so and seems you'll never get caught up. I have had others do some of the work and although they did a good job, it seems I have a better grasp on things if I know all the numbers everyday. Besides I get to thinking about what they charge for certain things, like filling out a tax report that takes me 10 minutes to do, and I can't sleep.

Same here. I'm scared of book keepers. A friend of mine had her business shut down cause the book keeper kept the tax money to fund his gambling habit. Another friend of mine suspected that his book keeper was stealing and hired someone to audit his books to see what was up. Night before they arrived his book keeper burned his business to the ground trying to cover her tracks. Didn't work though.

I feel sorry for the younger or new people who are trying to start a business cause the paperwork can be overwhelming if you've never done it before. Like you mention, you can't get a straight answer from the tax man and he will only tell you what you did wrong and fine you for it. To throw salt on the wound, they won't find the mistake for a long time and you will have to pay penalties and interest. On top of that, you have probably sent in more incorrect forms by not knowing and these will be problems as well. Sometimes I think it would be a lot simpler and more lucrative just to fall of the radar.

Burned out on tax work?

Nope. I keep records using Quickbooks throughout the year. Takes about 5 minutes to get my stuff together. Give it to the accountant and forget about it. Oh I almost forgot I do have to make a trip to sign the papers when he's done preparing them.

Good one Christy.
I have not started the taxes yet. Mine is usually no problem but this year I have to do my parents who died last year. All their records burned in the house fire so I don't even know where to start.

I have a good accountant- and its one bill I don't mind paying every year
Theres something wrong with a system that makes it nearly impossible to pay your taxes on a small business without a professional.

I feel sorry for you Kenny- the year my mother-in-law died made us crazy and we had some paper work to go by. Any chance they had an accountant that kept copies of previous years?- thats what saved us.

It is that time again, isn't it! You'd think as I'm not working things would be easy, but I'm scared it won't be :frowns: and my brain just doesn't hold information any more..
