Test your skills at ocular palpation and see if you can guess which trimester they are in - or possibly their due date if you feel frisky! ;-)

Here's a tough one! Fat or pregnant?

This one might just be fat or maybe not.

Tumor or Pregnant?

This one was grunting like a pig and making all kinds of weird noises while I took her picture. Emphazima? Lupus? ... complicated by a pregnancy?

I doubt any will calve today. We have blue skies, temp 75 degrees. My guess is that I will have a calf on the ground Wednesday - assuming it does rain as weatherman predicts.

I can't help you out on the calving dates Jo but they look really good.
It is kind of funny looking at your cows and how shiny and slick they are at this time of year and all mine look like wooly mammoths. :P
Good luck with calving hope they all are healthy and good moms :) .

Hey how come they are in such awesome shape I thought you guys had a really bad drought this year?

Must be easy keepers.

You right about the drought. It was aweful. I had to drop some numbers. It hurt and is still going to hurt till fall of 2009 when I get my numbers back up.

They are very easy fleshing animals. All I'm feeding them is hay and mineral. I've been trying to select mommas that will milk well and maintain body condition on minimal input.

They'll calve in less than 10 days.

That's what I'm guessing too. We have a front moving in either Wed or Thurs. I'm guessing they will begin with the front. 10th is beginning due date.

The only thing I can say ocularrally, they look like some fine, slick and fat ladies. I'm more of a tactile palpater....

I agree with Hills - really strange to see such CLEAN & SHINEY cattle. Mine are not only woolly mamaths, but also dirty. No way to keep them out of some mud. Even the smart ones that ONLY lay down on grassy areas are muddy. Twice, we've had a 2 foot cover of snow & got warm weather melting everything. Ground has not frozen yet. We've had some cold weather (-9), but ground was covered with thick layer of snow & no freezing ground. Got up to 62 yesterday - broke all reacords yesterday & day before.
Cattle look REALLY good - I'm jeolous :P

Pictures do not show the vulva which is what I tend to pay more attention to. Not bagged but otherwise I'd say they're close. Most of mine don't bag a lot either. Nice cows though.

Have they dropped yet?

I got two heifer calves on the ground now and noticed three cows off to themselves and walking the fences yesterday afternoon. They were also licking their hindquarters and one was even chewing her tail. Should have some more on the ground this morning. I like to see the little surprises - makes you feel like you are accomplishing something.

I was gonna guess they were heifers but I didn't want to show too much! :D
Congratulations!
