Thinking about calving in December. I know people usually shoot for warmer weather, but I'm still in high school and if I calve in december then I'll be able to be here any time I need to be since we will be on Christmas break. These are heifers so I really want to be here when they calve. I live in Kentucky and we haven't dropped below 12 degrees this year so temperature shouldn't be a problem. What do yall think?

This years not normal weather wise. If I were in Kentucky, I'd rater calve in October/November or march/April

Location and facilities are the key to your question. I'm in western Oregon and still have 2 feet of mud and no calving barn, so for me I like April. Lots of folks calve in December but they have climate or calving barns. Without the barn and climate it's a roll of the dice at breeding time for calving.

I am in Tennessee and we usually have our calves October, November, and a few in December with no problems.
