Any Salorn breeders out there?

What is a salorn? Can you post of a pic of one. I don't think I've ever seen one. If I have, I didn't know it.

I was wondering the same thing, but after thinking about it, Saler X Shorthorn sounds like a good possibility. Maybe someone will tell us for sure.

Thanks for the clarification. Does anyone have a pic they can post? I'm pretty sure I've never seen one.

Just one note of interest rough and ready. If you turned a paper to me that said salorne was the breed of the future I would flunk you and make you take the class again.
Angus (black) at the moment is the breed of the future. I don't raise them but anyone would have to agree that any breed with such a large segment of the commercial bull sales, 12 million dollars in the bank, 300,000 registered individuals , and the sale world by the tail , would be the place to put your money when betting on the breed of the future. Are they the best breed. Maybe , maybe not but they have things going their way at the moment and into the forseeable future.

Geez sorry didn't mean to strike a nerve... I don't own any Salorn at all so i'm not trying to advertise them or anything.. i just had to look up 60 breeds for an assignment. My farm has mainly Angus, Hereford, and Beefmaster cows in it. I didn't say Salorn was THE breed of the future, but one that might be well suited for harsh conditions like the Gulf Coast. From what i've read, they are performing better for crossbreeding purposes than Bos Indicus breeds.

Toughen up Lee. I wasn't offended. Just offering you a better perspective than the textbooks or breed association propaganda.

I was surprised to see that Charolais is #2 in registrations with about 74,000. Last year, the neighbor's Charolais bulls busted the fence and visited our cows for a few days. One of our Angus cows has a Charolais looking calf now.

Be sure you come back to let us know how much bigger that calf is at weaning.

Decent Angus blood lines it won't be.

Well i'm sure it'll weigh more than an Angus calf would at weaning, but the sales barn we sell our calves to usually docks gray calves about 20 to 30 cents a pound compared to Angus ones (if both were the same weight), so it just about evens out dollars wise.

if i am not mistaken that whole article was written in 1996, would seem to me if it was going to be a major breed contender it would be a little better known by now! jmo
judging by the pic i saw not my breed of choice :D
