3 days ago we had a pretty rank cow come off the lease with a coyote snare deep in one of her back legs. Got it out and flushed out all the maggots out of the wound, disinfected with alcohol and blue kote.Sealed it up with pine tar.Loaded her up with LA-200

Problem is she won,t leave the pine tar alone. any ideas

I'm curious about the "sealing it with pine tar" . Wouldn't it do better to let it drain, rather than risk it healing over with infection still inside? Unless it's really muddy there, I would prefer to leave it open and let it drain. It probably itches like a b^$%*.. no doubt why she is digging at the pine tar.

sounds like since she keeps bothering it . you nreed to wrapp her legg . so she cant get to the pine tar. scott

around here we can get screw worm spray or catron spray. both will kill the maggots & flies & dissenfect for 7 days at a time. have used them in july & august several times & all have healed well. have one heifer that tore up her leg a week ago & that is what i used on her & it is looking real good

There is mud everywhere here, We have had almost 30 inches of rain since May 21.Really bad for flies this year as well.Thats why I used the pine tar.

You could shackle her legs to stop her lifting her foot up.

Good idea , just aweful close to the wound

Another good idea. I ,d like to halter her, but she would likely strangle herself, even if she is not tied short.

Mr. Frenchie I can relate to a mud enviroment most years. Something I have used in the past that works well is kerosense in a pump up garden sprayer. We pen the animal in pen or lot every couple of days ride by her on a four wheeler and spray the wound down.
