People that raise their cattle with the "no antibiotics and no hormones" claim. What do they do if/when a cow gets sick? Just hope it gets better. Do they have other options?

Most that I know treat the animals-
When they treat a calf they just market that animal in the commercial market. Most don't count treating the cow as treating all her calves/for the rest of her life. Some will send the current calf nursing her to the commercial market/some don't.

Thats the great thing about marketing "natural" there are no set rules :)

The "natural" grassfed program we have been selling our calves to the last two years, do not take the ones that have had antibiotics. They make us sign an affidative stating that they have not had antibiotics, the ones that have been treated, we sell another way. Which is a pain in the butt when there are not many that get pinkeye or something. But the premium we get on the others is worth the pain in the butt.

To me, that is what "natural" branded programs want, no antibiotics.

Natural is a good nitch but it would make me nervous if somthing serious hit the herd, could really have damaging affects to a big part and spread fast.
