Antibiotics and human resistance

Why is it that contrary research like this never hits the news? This is the kind of report that ends up being in a one by two inch square on the back page of a newspaper in teeny print.

During my army medic course, the point was constantly driven home that the single biggest cause of antibiotic resistance is the abuse of antibiotics used to treat human infections, the most common being incomplete courses of treatment thus selectively eliminating susceptable bacteria and leaving the more resistant to multiply.
Later, during a meat hygiene lecture, Dr Horace Thornton indicated the problem with antibiotics in meat is that it masks infections in the meat, and there was no real concerne as far as the development of resistant strains of bacteria is concerned, I doubt anyone has done as much reasearch as Dr Thornton into antibiotic and pesticide contamination of the meat animal.

Being sick a whole lot as a kid I can tell you that my mother made me finish my medicine every time.
Now It does no good for me to take about six different antibiotics. Levaquin is about the only one that works and it's not cheap. It's a very heavy hitter! But, it works

On a slightly different note.
I think the biggest detriment to our young children is the use of ANTIBACTERIAL this & that. We are creating kids that are not getting small doses of exposure, which in turn is creating kids with NO RESISTANCE.
Remember the old Grandma's advice "a pound of dirt in a livetime" is good for the kids.
How many city kids could get the exposure to e-coli like we do and not get sick?
How many times have you eaten a sandwich with your dirty hands???? Hmmm, maybe a little manure on them??

Glad to see there are others that aren;t all that spun up about sanitation.

If it hadn't hit the ground it ain't really dirty.

I don;t know about that. Hitting the ground isn;t what makes it dirty, it's stepping on it after it's on the gorund that makes it dirty. Just blow off the big chunks and eat.

I was born & raised city - Rhode Island. My sister & her husband started coming to NY State Fair & are now our #1 herdsmen at the fair.
Few years ago we had other relatives visit with us all at the fair. Got talking about manure/eating, etc.
Moe (brother-in-law) said "Yeah, when we first started coming, Diane (sister) would bring all this food to us in the barn and I would go & wash my hands. Now, if a cow stands up, I grab the fork with one hand, and keep on eating. Don't think twice about washing my hands".

If any one has ever been on the working end of a cow, they have eaten sh..... somewhere along the line.
But me, I am a turd watcher. It tells me a lot about the nutrition my cattle are getting.
What kind of condements are ya'll useing to go with these sanwiches?

The 15 second rule is honored in our household, I just fail to tell our guests 'til after they've ate.

Why bother telling them unless you want to make sure they never come back for a meal?
