Another fence question

Do any of you guys use poly wire? Does it work as well / better than smooth hi-tensile? I need to run about 8000 ft of hot wire to keep a neighbors bull out of my pasture.

Don,t use poli-wire, Use multi -wires of hi tensile. And energize it to 5-8000 volts. You want that bull to get the shock off a lifetime.

I do use Gallagher Poli-wire For other things.60 times better than ordinary poli-wire.

good luck. :)

I was considering poly wire because every time I have used hi-tensile in the past, it seems like I spend as much time undoing kinks as I do running the wire, but thats problably just my impatience. I have a 5' pipe and cable fence, but I have a neighbors bull across the street from me who likes to visit my cows a few times a year. Thus I am going to run a couple strands of hot wires along the street to hopefully solve that situation.

As far as running the barbed wire, I bought one of those wire unrollers you roll across the ground, with the handle ends that stick in the rolls, and it was the biggest piece of junk I have used in a while. What my neighbor and I came up with last time we ran some barbed wire on his place was to hook up a 12' trailer to my 4 wheeler, drill a couple of holes on the top rails near the back of the trailer and put in an eyebolt on each side. Then we ran a piece of 3/4" conduit through one eyebolt, then put the conduit through the center of the barb wire roll, then run the conduit through the other eyebolt. Works great, and spools off nice and evenly. Not too hard to keep control of as long as you don't have a 12 yr old kid running the 4 wheeler. Once we got him to go nice and slow and to quit stopping every 20 ft, it went very smoothly! Then just hook up the come along, stretch out and staple in and cut. I am sure we will use this method again and hopefully that will take care of the hi- tensile kinking up on me.

That's from not using a spinning jenny!

Ok Bez - once again you have baffled me. What is the sardine method???

I have put calves that are being weaned behind electric fence and they would stick out their tongues and touch it with the tip repeatedly. I watched them do it about 10-15 times before they quit. They never challenged it though. It was funny seeing them stick their tongue on it then snort and shake their head back an forth like they were shaking it off, then go right back to it with thrie tongue out.

You need either a better ground system or a better charger.

I made one out of some scrap 2x6 and ply wood that fit on my goose neck hitch. Worked great. Tied off at the first corner post and drove to the next.
