I was considering poly wire because every time I have used hi-tensile in the past, it seems like I spend as much time undoing kinks as I do running the wire, but thats problably just my impatience. I have a 5' pipe and cable fence, but I have a neighbors bull across the street from me who likes to visit my cows a few times a year. Thus I am going to run a couple strands of hot wires along the street to hopefully solve that situation.
As far as running the barbed wire, I bought one of those wire unrollers you roll across the ground, with the handle ends that stick in the rolls, and it was the biggest piece of junk I have used in a while. What my neighbor and I came up with last time we ran some barbed wire on his place was to hook up a 12' trailer to my 4 wheeler, drill a couple of holes on the top rails near the back of the trailer and put in an eyebolt on each side. Then we ran a piece of 3/4" conduit through one eyebolt, then put the conduit through the center of the barb wire roll, then run the conduit through the other eyebolt. Works great, and spools off nice and evenly. Not too hard to keep control of as long as you don't have a 12 yr old kid running the 4 wheeler. Once we got him to go nice and slow and to quit stopping every 20 ft, it went very smoothly! Then just hook up the come along, stretch out and staple in and cut. I am sure we will use this method again and hopefully that will take care of the hi- tensile kinking up on me.
