Here's another boy to look at. Opinions?

I do prefer this boy like his depth and capacity as well as fleshing, though he looks like he's been on a fair bit of feed. i want to see more length on him but i think thats an illusion because of his depth. like his masculinity. looks like he might be a tad posty? better sheath than the other bloke too

please excuse my typing pet lamb is on my lap only got half a hand

Been in show ration since February... and our feed is 'light' compared to alot of others. Shame there's no pic of his top and from behind. I don't think this photo shows the tremendous butt he has. Legs don't look the best here, I think he's a little short necked, but passable. As for softness... well, if only you could feel a photo!!

Well I like him even more in that case, if he can flesh like that on not a huge deal of feed.

The neck doesnt bother me, but the more I look at him, the more the lack of body length does bother me. I'd like to have him standing alongside a bull that visibly looks long, to see if it is just an illusion, cos I think it is. But it does bother me. He does look soft in the skin. And I trust your judgement on the legs.

Is he one of yours? Breeding?

Like this one much better than the other. Little weak across the top, but appears very "showy". Purty good muscle expression as well.

now thats a shorthorn bull.an he is built like he should be built.being short wont hurt him.he is 1 nice thick well fleshed bull.

All in all, not bad. I'd like to see his topline a touch more level, and at least in the pic he does look like he could stand more in the hindquarter department, but sounds like that may be the angle of the pic based on your comments.

Getting him in tomorrow so I'll see if I can get some pics of his top and butt.

Keren, he's plenty long enough, you're right, the depth creates the illusion that he is short. The fact that he's not standing exactly right probably doesn't help either!!
He's off to Dubbo next week, one of my charges. By a Canadian sire, out of a top red cow. We're collecting him Monday, just a few straws to play around with :P !! I plan on using him on a couple of my own cows.

He looks like a pretty good bull. What is his sire?

Coyote, he is by Alta Cedar Signature 119N. We also have a good young heifer by him (unfortunately she is horned :( )

Well these aren't the best but at least give you a few more angles. I was getting really frustrated, I think this is just one of those bulls where a picture just won't show him for what he is.
Oh, and I apologise, they were taken right on dusk so the lighting isn't great.

From behind (that's right, he wouldn't stand for me!!)

And over the top....

Not a bad sort of bull, better than the local ones about here.
Colin :)

Well he's heading over your way in a week Colin so if you know anyone who needs a good bull...... ;-)
lol, it's worth a try hey!! :D :P

I have found that its very difficult with normal amature equipment to take pics of the tops of animals and also directly from the front or back without the effect of the perspective skewing the image.

If you could stand much further away and zoom in you'll be much happier with the pics, not that I have the equipment to do it, just thought I'll mention it.

Lets know how you go with him. We have used Shorthorns over our herefords in the past and still to this day have that good roan influence. We recently had a Shorthorn bull to reinstill that roan,it was a unsuccessful the bull was very bad tempered. He was a red roan polled bloke. We selected him in a group at the time, which as it turned out was a mistake. We kept a few of his heifers that have been ok so far. When I say locally the quality of the Shorthorns I mean 4ks up the road. he sells bulls from his commercial herd. They are principally Bogan blood and another that I can't think of at the moment. I'm well versed with the quality of The Grove and Arubial from Condamine in Queensland and a new fairly local, just moved to near Texas Queensland, they have Shorthorns and Simmentals,Anton Volker is his name,I think he's married to a Shorthorn lady ? from SA.
Enough raving on.
Keep breeding and showing good Shorthorns
Colin

Colin, Anton is my boss's son-in-law, his wife, Alice, moved her cattle from here when they married a while back. Her cattle are pretty much the same blood as ours. Their stud sire, a big roan bloke, is from here too, a bull we had in Dubbo a couple years back. Alice's prefix, Exmoor, comes from the name of our property here.
What a small world!!
Speaking of Morgan's in Qld, did you hear of their terrible tragedy over the weekend? Rian and Mandy, of Arubial, lost their middle child, a 9 year old girl, in a quadbike accident on Saturday. Just horrible. And poor Margaretta Morgan (the girl's grandmother) was looking after them at the time. I just can't imagine how you'd get over something like that...

How sad that is. I'll have to give Maragaretta a call. I've been really good friends of Margarettas sister for 35 years and have known Margaretta for about the same through my involvement with the Brahman breed. It sure is a small world. Anton actually bought their new property off some clients of ours that have prurchased Brahmans from us.Don't know why he moved from beautiful soft Darling Downs country to some not so beautiful hard country. There would be no way that I would leave the Darling Downs if I had a choice.
Thanks for the news Carla
Colin :(
