I can't remember what they call it over here, but they take a skinny cow and keep her off of water for a day or so, then they feed her some sort of flax seed or rye, or somthing that swells, then the day of the auction they water the heck out of them and they swell up like they are fat and sassy...has anyone heard of this? And if so, how can I tell....we are going to the auction tomorrow and someone was telling me that there are a lot of those that go through...

If this happened they would not look fat and sassy. They would still look skinny all over except that they would have a big'ole swelled up belly. Not making fun,but the cows would look like those starving children you see on TV. Skinny everywhere except for the bellies.

Go ahead and throw the BS flag Rod. I know you want to.

Wait until the bidding starts and ask one of the old timers what the folks see in the animal, they will be glad to give you a education for free...buy him a cup of coffee and you'll have a friend every time you go to that barn.
If the animal doesn't look right..it probably isn't.

Mike, be my guest.

The cattle will not look fat a sassy because you cant change hair coat and you cant change meat and muscle like that. All it will do is make them look pot bellied or "full". Full cattle are easily recognized and do not sell well at all.

Ok, apparently poor choice of words, "fat and sassy" you have to remember I am new to cattle...lol....Thanks for the tips and I'll be sure to think on all this while I am there.
Thanks a lot guys.
