I know angus on brangus cows calves sell well in my area.
WOuld they make good replacements?

We already produce they cross but we have never kept any because all of our cows were young. But now since we had to but our numbers in order to build our numbers again It may be smart to keep some heifers.

NO they are just a good group of commercial brangus cows.
I guess the correct term for the calves would be ultrablacks.
as far as the crosses I will have this year from the commercial cows that are heifers(calves) would be:

red super baldies. (out of the red angus plus bull and some nice horned hereford cows)
black baldies (reg. black angus bull(MYTTY IN FOCUS SON) and reg. horned hereford)
and the ultra blacks.

Uniformity of the calves this year is off because we down sized the herd, and I picked the best cows out of the herd and they were bred to different bulls. So i have more of some crosses than others.
Will be uniform next year i have the black angus on everything right now to produce black baldies and ultrablacks.

It is a good cross. You have what they call an "Ultra-Black". Quite a few folks are doing it and often refer to them simply as a "better brangus".

I think if you got that brahman influence down to a maximum of 3/16's preferably less you would much better off.

I'm not sure where you are located, but there are places in this country where 3/16 ths or less Brahman won't make it. Brahman influenced cattle have increased heat tolerance, increased insect and disease resistance, increased maternal ability, increased fertility, and increased longevity. And contrary to popular belief, they will hang on the rail right along side any other breed. Recent Ranch to Rail data out of TAMU shows that Brahman influenced cattle are more profitable at every stage of production...even on the rail - what they give up in quality grade is easily overcome by yield, growth, and most importantly...less morbidity and mortality.

True brangus are exactly 3/16 brahman....Ultrablacks are 3/32.

Sorry TB. You have that one wrong. Brangus are 3/8. Ultrablack are 3/16.

There are other factors you may want to consider.
When you market your calves. In August and September the price of ear starts dropping and comes back up in early spring.
Brahman influenced cattle are noted for being more efficient therefore there may be a difference in stocking rate and supplements.
There may be less influence as to gain from heterosis.
In our area severe drought is taking place and more Brahman influence is in demand. So changes in the environment in your area may have some influence on your decision.

Here the replacements that ring the bell are the F-1 tigers followed by true F-1 baldies .
See a lot of Brangus or Char bulls on these girls.

I believ they would work well in your area, but I think you getting a little toomuch angus for you location, if you in east Texas, meaning the Southeast, I would go more for the Brangus bull than a Angus. Then switch back to the Angus with your replacement hefers to keep the balance.
