Seems like I can't keep oak boards nailed to treated posts sometimes.Wean some calves and they pushed a short panel of boards off.They were on the back side.
I nailed the boards onto the posts using hot dipped galvanized nails so the nails wouldn't rust in the posts.Used 10d or 12d.Should I have used 16d or deck screws?The deck screws have such small diameter heads i'm afraid of the boards splitting over time and slipping off.
That was one advantage of locust posts.The nail wouldn't come out.

I go 20 d ring shanked. Drill pilot hole to not bust the wood.

We never use nails in those situations.

Always use screws or bolts. If worried about head size throw a washer on them.

the best board fastner i have found beside counter sink and the lag bolt is call a nail base faster, Its used in roofing .

Ya crazy cows go to town fast. I used to not care if they where crazy as long as they rasied a good calf.
