Is there a cure for this disease? I have always heard that if they tested positive they would always be carriers an should be removed from the herd.

Oxytetracycline is used to treat Anaplasmosis, cured animals can become carriers, but usually don't. Biting flies canspread the disease if they move quickly between the infected animal and the next victim. Ticks are the most common vector, with the Anaplasma passing through the different development stages of the tick, wildlife are the usual primary hosts.
Vaccination is the best controll method, in endemic areas, breeding cattle with a high natural resistance is a common option, high Bos Indicus or Sanga percentage in these herds was common when I ranched in an area with a high Anaplasmosis rate.
