Has anyone ever experienced crypto in their baby calves, a few years ago we lost 12 to it. It doesn't respond to scour treatments, if my understanding is right it is not a bacteria but a protozone. We lose a couple calves a year to this illness. I would sure appreciate some advice.

I think it just has to "run it's course", just wash your hands after working with the calves, as it is very contagious (sp) and you will end up with untreatable scours. Keep them hydrated with electolytes for a few days, then slowly start them back on the milk, still giving electrolytes.

I can vouch for it being "highly contagious"! About 12 years ago I got a case of it and landed in the hospital for a week. :(

the old guys used to claim, a raw egg & whiskey would stop scours. don't know about your type but it does work on some calves.

We used to grind up a charcoal briquette and feed that in the bottle as a last hope. Worked on most didn't do a thing on others.

Ok, I am taking a shot in the dark here, I am not experienced with crypto, but if it is a protozon and anything like cocidia, I use diatomacious earth as preventative as well as treatment....placed into the feed it works very well for us.
Not sure this will work for you......but perhaps. :cboy:
