but the kid in 'could have been worse' video ran like he caused the crash

It's referring to the height of the truck. It caught on something, which is what caused the accident.

The top rear passenger side of the truck hit a big tree trunk that arched up & out over the road and that caused the front of the truck to lurch over onto the sidewalk.. I've said it before and will repeat it again "Trees are not your friend!"
