does anybody pasture there alfalfa. if so is it easy to take care of and what kind of alfalfa do you use.

I will from time to time. Watch for bloat and I perfer not to graze it to hard. Make sure you have some growth back to it before the first frost.

The cattle don't care but the "grazing" type with deep set crowns will maintain a stand a lot longer.

I would stay off it when the ground is wet and cut it off once a year to knock the weeds back.

I cann't understand why more folks don't graze alfalfa. Fear of bloat and having to re seed periodically must be part of it.

if i was going to graze alalfa.id control graze it 2 or 3 hrs a day.then run the cows out an shut the gate.i wouldnt let them have it 24/7 or when it was to wett.no need in tromping good feed in the mudd.id feed the cattle hi mag minerals or bloat blocks.to try to prevent bloat.if you dont control graze it.you are wasting your forage.

Providing small breaks or removing them every couple hours can work. Another way to reduce waste is to swath it one afternoon and turn them in late AM the next day. You will be surprized how well they clean it up.
