I was looking through the SydGen sale catalog that came with the Nov Angus Journal. They actually list which reference sires are deceased. There was a lot of them that were deased and were 4 years old or less. Do most breeders that the longevitity of AI studs into consideration in their selections or is a short life span just considered normal for an AI sire. I know a lot of times this info isn't readily available.

If they were under four years I guarantee they were not proven bulls.

Some have accidents ( some not preventable) or for some unknown reason culled ???? ;-)

A lot of AI sires if proven ,and healthy, live long lives , (these boys live the good life ) well into their teens. :cowboy:

As the ole' country boy saying goes:

They were rode hard and put up wet

should apply here.

Good bulls, good genetics, but milked too hard.............

Wonder if they got all the semen they could ever sell off him (or use if sydgen is the only user of the bull) and put him into burger. If they sold him to someone else their market for that semen would drop and new bulls are always around the corner for sydgen and others.
