I haven't posted in a long time but have read it regular. I started back in 98/99? asking questions before I got into raising a few. Used this boards advice and help since and have done pretty good. Questions answered before I asked!! Great board and great knowledge///and some humor. Now the question. AI is such an invasive procedure. another thought. Scopy procedures that are done at Drs. Offices and hospitals use smasll cameras and equipment to do their damage or help, which ever. Why not for AI?? This came to me after I had a colonoscopy!! I asked my vet but he didn't know what it would entail in equipmet and cost. Have not done any reasearch on the equip. that would be required to do this. Any thoughts.

This would be WAY to costly for the average (hell any) rancher. Some people do not have electricity at thier barns. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm sure there are "better" ways to breed cattle but AI works (and work very well) for a lot of people and is very inexpensive.

The main reason I see that it is so invasive, i.e. rectal manipulation, is because you do actaully have to manipulate the cervix over the pipette. It's not a 100% straight shot.
With dairy goats, not sure if it's changed, we sued to insert a speculam into the vagina and fix the cervical opening with a hole in the end of the speculaum. You then inserted the pipette and had to twist and prod with it to get into the cervix. BTW, you did this with your eyes at the level of the vagina because it was done by sight. Trust me, the way we do cows is much easier and a more sure thing. It's also less potentially harmful to the cervix.
