Awhile back, I asked how many cows you had AIed in one day. Now I have a revised version. Let's assume:

1. You synchronize.
2. You have adequate facilities.
3. You have a good heat detection system.
4. You are very experienced at AI.
5. You are physically fit.
6. Your herd is easy to work.
7. You are ALONE.

How long do you think it would take you to AI one cow or how many do you think you could do in a day?

The most I have AI'd in one day is 3, but then again, I've only been AI'ing since May, so here is my best guess based on my experiences up til now. Assuming I am doing all of the work from getting the cows in the chute to loading the gun and doing the AI, and also assuming the cows are fairly cooperative, I think with the facilities we have now I could average 4 an hour.

When I was an ABS rep, I probably averaged 6-10 per day, I did do 20 at one place where he had synchronized a group of heifers. It takes me about 60 seconds assuming that the cervix isn't too unusual to get the semen on target.

By the time I got done with those 20 heifers, my arm was a little sore and I still had to go do my regular rounds.

With someone helping with the semen handling, I can average about 30 mins/amimal. I would add 10-15 mins each if I had to to the semen handling in addition to the loading cows & breeding. So that sounds like 16 plus in a 12 hrs. I'm sure a lot depends on the facilities & ease of handling - some cows are just plain a pain in the butt.
