Affordable. That's a nice catchy word and has always held the meaning to me that it was priced within reason. Priced right. A good deal for your money. Was I ever wrong. Stupid I guess. I was just informed Friday that due to the Affordable Care Act my insurance will increase 75% this year. After we made some changes and found another carrier it got more affordable and will only increase 55% this year. I guess a 20% reduction is more affordable than a 75% increase so I guess this isn't exactly a total lie. Again, my hat's off to DotGov for killing the American dream.

I don't think you're looking at it the right way.

Looks like they insured that financial success will only be a dream for most Americans.

It's working well for us. I lost my health insurance on the first go around. It was ignorant and selfish of me to have paid so much for health insurance that would later cover what I needed (without an outrageous out of pocket schedule) when there obviously are so many other needs .gov has not been able to meet for its party donators.

Remember Joe, it's less about healthcare and more about being a tax, unless it needs to be an individual mandate.... I mean it's for the crippled, or a crippling tax... either way, how would all those people that were able to get Medicaid have known they were eligible without us spending billions on advertisements? It's not like hospitals were equipped with business offices for such information.

Can you imagine what a more accurate name would be and it passing?

I think a lot of people are going to find out what was in this law when they go and do their taxes this year. Am told one fine, a fine levied on the employer who has the audacity to pay their employees bills out of pocket ..... this criminal act ..... is $100 per day or $36,500 for the year. This should be a hot topic this year when people see what is now in place.

This year, I'll have two children in college and increased health care and still don't have an Obama phone. This is going to suck. Am thinking of going to Lil Mexico and getting a new set op papers. Won't cost but $100 for a SS card and drivers license, $150 if I want CDL. I'll can then get healthcare and can even vote twice.

Ya'll are just being selfish--you got too much so you're supposed to share it with those who have less, and by paying more, you are offsetting the high premiums and deductibles of those less fortunate than yourselves. In good conscience Joe--you should have just went ahead and paid the 75% higher ins cost like a Good American, instead of shopping around for a lesser increase. tsk tsk on ya. :P

You just deprived someone of their rainbow and glitter--now they got nothing to feed their unicorns.
It's for the children Joe--and the little kittens.

There is more truth in your words than you might realize. I am selfish and apparently have a god complex. I say this, or admit this, because recently we have been hit with a lot of rain. Ground is soaked. Soaked so bad the fire ants - my subjects - my minions - have built tall castles in the pastures to escape the great flood I've unleashed on them. One colony chose to build their castle on a bale of hay and several of them turned on my - their lord and master - and bit me several times. This displeased me and rather than tossing each colony a crust of bread I set about to going over each ant hill with the tractor tire thus squashing their kingdoms deep under the ground and the water. I've been feeding hay late in the afternoon so those that did not drown by my smite were left to build new cover before nightfall when temperatures would drop below freezing. Thousands of ants can be seen dead by each mound during the day all because they turned on me .... their master.

Yep, I guess you are right. I am selfish and vindictive.

They shoulda named it the ABA, Anything But Affordable. The "affordable" policy I had was non-compliant so this year I get to pay 20% more, plus a higher deductible. It's pretty sad that health insurance I haven't even used in over a year costs more every month than my last car payment. But it would be irresponsible to go without it, sooner or later everybody gets cancer or has an injury, needs surgery, etc. I don't want to have to go bankrupt to save my life.

FYI An assessment in the affordable care act charges everyone who has insurance $65 per year. Not many know about because it is included in your bill. Any employer who pays for part of your insurance must pay $65 per person or reduce your coverage accordingly. My one son has five children so it costs them $455 simply to have their own insurance.

Affordable is the proper label for what happened. Those of us who worked hard enough to have health insurance will come up with some way to afford the increase as we always do and those of us who couldn't afford health insurance get it for free on the backs of those of us that could previously afford it. Affordable doesn't always mean cheaper.

Can't make a comment that won't get it locked. Mine went up 35% after my plan that I had that I was assured I could keep got cancelled. :bang:

My monthly payment and my co pay went up last year and this year. I need to go to Sams and buy some Vaseline figured I need to start buying it in bulk with our current leader.

We canceled all our health insurance in 1995. But we're going to buy Blue cross Blue shield health insurance through the Affordable health care crap. It's going to work out well for me because I need to have neck, shoulder and back surgery. And there was no way I was ever going to be able to get insurance with my pre-existing conditions. Is it right no, is it right to make folks buy insurance? And if they don't fine them? It's a bunch of BS, that just might work out for me. But I'm not holding my breath.

What pizzes me off is it would be very easy to have a national group insurance program that EVERYONE has to pay in and it would be affordable. Other countries have done it and it runs less than 6% of your income - and this includes the food stamps and government housing. But we can't do it. No, the republicans want to protect the monopoly of the big insurance company and the democrats want to have someone else other than their supporters pay for it.

If what I'm hearing is correct there are going to be a lot of pizzed off people this tax season when they start fining rather than refunding.

Remember "highgrit" the surgeries you need will only happen if approved by the "Approver".

Ain't that the truth I had He77 getting my back surgery approved

They will send you a letter that reads something like we know you are injured and you may be in pain but we don't feel like your surgery is necessary. I got a two page letter but that is basically what it said.

Who's the approver? I sure hope it doesn't work out like that Wacocowboy. But I can see that happening especially when you answer the questions truthfully.

Mine was a nurse. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield through my wife's job. I had to fight them and the surgeon had to call several times to get it approved. Heck I was still fighting them the week of the surgery. They were trying to only approve part of the surgery and leave out the big stuff that I really needed. It was worth it I feel a lot better only bad thing is I cant do much while healing. I hope everything goes smoother for you and you get done what you need to get done to feel better.
