sky, where are you getting it from?

I have an agreement with 5 breweries and 3 already producing and I think im going to have to get more animals to feed it too. I am getting it from 2 breweries in Petersburg and 3 in Richmond much of my week is spend hauling 8-12 tons of it per week. I am also potentially getting 1 or 2 more to get it from. The greatest thing of it is my feed bill went from 600 a month down to 50 or so. I have started mixing dried molasses and minerals in the grain some.

I been getting dumptruck loads of bread and hostess expired cakes for the pigs for 60.00 and give the cows bread as a treat sometimes and buy 3 bags of sweet feed as treats is usually my feed for the month

I thought about it but its a lot less work to put it in a pit like silage and cover it. It is still wet and id gamble to say 60% water. I have put it in containers and drilled holes and water runs off and it dries off fairly well. I have put some on a tarp in hot days and it dries out really well just labor intensive. Problem comes in summer with spoilage it keeps a lot better in the winter. I haven't had much spoilage yet. I think if stored in a good silage bag or pit maybe 4-6 months depending on temps outside. I never had any store that long because I feed it fast. I will take a pic of the bins I keep it in on different places with holes

Sounds like fishy accounting to me, but a good deal all the same. Gas and time isn't cheap, matter of fact in my business those two are my greatest expenses. Why would you add molasses to something that the cows readily consume?

The places I pick up are on the way home as I do majority of my work an hour and a half from home so im already out there. I just like playing with feeds to see if I can make something better by mixing it.

I might have to look into getting some do you get it free or how much does it cost im not sure i will be able to get it to cheap as the local mill takes most of it i think

What do you use to haul it i was thinking a big water tote would work good but you probably get more then you could put in one of those

Some places use an auger that augers it in a dumptruck for me others I have those plastic totes like you see in the pic. I have to use a landscape trailer for most places since they just have a small forklift to pick it up. Those totes if its fairly dry hold about 1000 lbs in each if its wetter of course more weight. I like those plastic totes for ease of shoveling into feeders and cleaning.
