Looks like a very ornate Coleman lantern. My guess is it uses white gas and has mantles.

I think you are right 3way .
The literature says that it uses kerosene and you have to preheat it with alcohol . :? NO CLUE !!
I will take a better pic of it with my camera so it is not skewed by the light .

Thanks !!! :D

Great info thank you !!! :tiphat:

Mine lost it's value on the plane ride home as the glass broke :(
But the good news is that all the wine survived intact !

I have one HD but the similarity between yours and mine ends at the base. Yours is a bit up market of mine. I used to use mine all the time when I was coming up to my block on weekends before I built my house and I used to stay in an old shack I built, It gives a good light. Yeh a little tray under the mantle you put some methylated spirit in with a squeeze bottle or pull it apart and pour it in then light the tray and let it heat up the mantle and then whooshka you turn on the kero and she burns bright. I am sure you would still be able to get a new glass for it. I replaced mine a couple of times a secondhand camping shop in town used to keep them.

That's a neat item to collect. My grandmother used to keep an old kerosene lamp with colored glass base out on a divider. Seeing the glass based ones always makes me think of her.

Do you collect lamps? Just curious because that is what I make and I know a little bit. Alan Schneider at Antiques Trader in SF, CA knows more than me about that time period. The date is interesting because around 1911 anything with any kind of craftsmanship produced in the US was electric. The glass should be simple to replace. Glass studios are a dime a dozen in the Pacific Northwest.

Very cool Hillsdown. Do you have pics of your other lamps? I would love to see them.

Chippie here is a link to what I posted a few year ago of my lamps and I have a few more in the barn up in the attic that are old but not in mint condition . :tiphat:

As I get older (NOT BY MUCH though ;-) ) I really like antiques and am collecting them and decorating our house with them . I like to buy antique and vintage pieces and make them work , rather than buy a matching set of everything . I like anything that is made of wood and leather and still looks like it is in pristine condition which is very hard to find or costs a ridiculous amount of money .

We sorta collect old rusty stuff... never again will be useful, but neat to look at. Best example is an old Singer sewing machine that sits on a rock wall.. I think it must have been one of the first ones built. Another is an old gold mining dredge with holes in it, an old railway lamp that's supposed to have a couple different colors of glass lenses.. Old hoof nippers.

One of the working antiques we have is a fur stitching machine in excellent condition, on a new table with a new modern motor that works great (if you can sew and have the furs). We have a copy of the original bill of sale for it and the manual too.
