A friend of mine had a 6 yr. old Reg. Angus cow calve twins out on 500 acs.. She needed some serious groceries to raise twins, (which I have) so I bought her. I also needed a good mamma cow to put embryos in later. Thinking that I can sell the calves after they are weaned to nearly pay for the cow. (She was bred to Reg. Angus bull for these calves.) Thought I would share some pics.
Sorry about the pic size. But I can't get photobucket to cooperate! :bang:
I have not had anything but Brangus cattle for atleast 15yrs!

you don't mow that? I try to keep mine about 8'' when I turn em in
Yep. Mowed it every 2-3 weeks prior to irrigating all summer. Just let it go the last 3-4 weeks to stock pile feed for winter. I still have bloat blocks out because it is clover under the tall stuff.
I have been surprised at how much of the taller stuff they are actually munching on. Which is good to see.

Nice addition. How are your new calves sexed? You certainly keep some fine looking stock.

Thank you fitz. Unfortunately the twins are a bull and a heifer. :( But that's ok, they will grow well here and go to market.

That is some serious bull!

Sounds like you did good. You irrigate your grass, right? Wish our grass looked that good..... finally getting some much needed rain but I am thinking it might be a little late for any real growth before winter. We have been on hay for a few weeks now....

bcg, you should have told me you were adding angus to the herd. I have two brimmer bulls in the tank that I could have sent to get you well on the way to making some fresh brangus genetics.
Just a thought but ultrablack might not be a bad option in the future.

Firesweep, here is another pic of the Angus bull. (Though blurry, you can see his length a bit better.) He was pretty impressive. He has sired many high selling bulls for my friend, who is a 40 + year breeder. Knowing my friend, he probably has some pretty impressive EPDs also. The cow and bull both are puppy dog gentle, which is a nice bonus!

Hey good idea on the "fresh brangus genetics". I better get started though, at 52 I might run out of time getting to the 5/8 3/8 part!
Ultrablacks have been pretty good sellers with some of my friends. I did raise and sell some when I was living in Oregon and the neighbors Angus bulls kept getting in with my Brangus cows. (My cows were sexier then his, you know!) :cowboy:

Very nice cattle, I think you will be pleased with the angus. You have a beautiful place. I always enjoy your pictures.

Thank you!
Yes she has been one of the quietest, sweetest cows I have ever been around. I am really enjoying her. I check the twins a few times a day just to make sure there are no scours and the littlest one is getting his share of milk. Mamma has the runs from the green grass. But the calves are doing well. :D
