My neighbor bought 20 or so beautiful black baldie heifers. ( jealous ) they are really good. However they are only freshly weaned and he dropped them in the pasture with is 8 month old bull calves. As we know from one of our last posts. This is a huge HECK No! However when I asked him about it. He said he would just abort them when he cycled them. This kinda sounded horrible to me. What was he talking about?
 
A shot of lutalyse within the first 120 day after conception will abort the heifers and cause them to start cycling again. There is a chance that these heifers are bred before he got them home and need to be aborted before he put them with his calves. The probability of dystocia with heifers calving at 15-17 months is very high and terminating the pregnancy is in the best interest of the heifers.

Not if done early on. It is essentially the same as synching for AI. Same hormones. Either way it's a lot easier than trying to calve and raise a calf at 15 months old
 
What if they have been bred for 90-120 days? Do they pass a fetus? Pardon my ignorance. Im just unfamilar with the drug and will actually be hiring a tech to do ours and will be dropping them off at his facility to do so in the Spring.

Yes they will pass the fetus, it is still quite small and easy to pass.
 
Many of these fetuses are likely absorbed rather than passed. A 90 day fetus is about the size of a rat and, the cervix would likely remain closed fairly tight in most of these and the uterus will reabsorb the tissue.
