had a cow sluff a calf about a month ago.took her to the vet. he could find no reason for her to abort. found the calf by the way about as big as a fist.the cow had afterbirth and just looked like she calved. I just assumed it was her fetus.figured about 3 months along.my question is, could she be pregnant with twins and just abort 1 or did I make a mistake which cow it was because now she is bagging up and starting to spring pretty heavy.

OK, I'm confused.....
If I'm reading correctly you thought she had aborted so you had the vet look at her? Wouldn't your vet have been able to tell you at the time of examination of she was still bred or not? I would think a palpation would have been part of the exam.

Maybe I misread the post?

Some things to consider-Maybe what you found & thought was her aborted calf actually came from another cow? Or was it definitely out of her? Anyone else that hasn't calved that should have by now?

When in doubt...preg check her. If she is bred it should be really easy now. Good Luck

At that stage, if she had been pregnant with twins, the twin would have probably been absorbed - not aborted. To abort requires the cervical plug to be displaced, and both twins would have been aborted in all likelihood. I'm thinking you probably made a mistake on which cow it was.

well I am definetly confused.Let me try again. After I posted I thought back it was at least 2 months ago, maybe more. The vet did not palpate her, again,I assumed she aborted so he nor I thought there would be a reason. My question has been answered because she would have aborted both if it was twins.I had her checked for lepto IBR and other diseases as I had another cow I was afraid had aborted also.I think the second one aborted but the first did not.Forty years of raising cows and I learn something everyday. sorry for the confusion.thanks
