This is the almost 9 acres in the bottom which hasn't been touched by anything but deer and hogs. When I started mowing it two years ago there were mostly weeds and some Rye. Been pretty vigilant about gathering the Rye from the upper part of our place and spreading the seed. This is what we are blessed with this year. Fourteen and a half bales of fairly clean Rye, which my neighbor only charged me $20 a roll. Between this and what was left from the past winter I'm set.

Nice to see some hay isn't it ? I'm gonna cut my coastal in 2 weeks 18 acres and I'm hoping to cut 75 or 80 rolls . The next cutting should be a good one as long as the rain doesn't stop .

You ain't a kiddin' it's good. I was really surprised that it made as much as it did under the circumstances. This $20 dollar hay beats the heck out of that $80 - $120 stuff last year. Good luck with your hay!
 
Slick it seems everywhere I turn I'm seeing rolls of hay these days. At least we're off to a good "start". Might not last long but everyone will get one cutting anyway. Saw one big field yesterday where they had rolled about 200 rolls and then square baled the rest of it. Must have been a couple thousand squares out there. Sure looked nice. Mostly cool weather grasses and some short coastal.

It's all over the place here, too. Most everyone is already talking about a second cutting. I'm just going to take the wait and see attitude as my pasture has given me more than I expected, so I'll take a second one if it's there.

Has anyone put a price on it yet?

I don't see how people can sell hay before the end of the hay season . No one knows how much they will have in fertilizer or fuel until they are finished cutting for the year . Say you get a good first cutting but a lot less on the next two . Wouldn't you want to average your cost over the year and see how much you need to sell it for ?
 
last year we got our hay baled for $20 a roll.but we also got 40acs or more of hay burned.dont know what the price will be for baling yet this year.
