Old AI shipping containers used to have liquid Nitrogen or Dry Ice in them right?? anyway the question is do these new shipping containers contain liquid N2.
I had some Semen sent to me, I looked in the container and there was no liquid Nitrogen in it. I tried to dump the container and nothing, no dry ice, no liquid N2. The canes felt frozen but I am worried, should I be? I swear I read somewhere that these new shipping containers have something in them to hold the liquid N2 in them and will not spill kinda like a "sponge".

You are correct. No need to worry. These are called shipping containers and are much more expensive than the regular containers.

jscunn, I was told that shipping containers only have LN vapor and need to be transferred to your tank as soon as you get them.

Shipping containers have an absorbent material and absorbs the LN so that it will not spill out during shipping. The ones I use will last about a week. Enough for most shipping times.

jscunn,

What did they charge you to ship semen, how many straws and distance? I was wanting to buy some Longhorn semen to AI my Longhorn cows to and they wanted almost $89.00 to ship.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
Bobg,
They charged about $60 for shipping, this was from Hawkeye in Iowa down to Florida.

when you removed the plug from the mouth of the tank , you should have seen some "smoke " puff out of the tank . That tells you immedialty if it was still frozen.
