Sold a weaned and vaccinated heifer at one of the local barns this week. Not a particularly pretty heifer, but about 500 pounds. She brought about .70 a pound! Are you kidding me?! That’s the worst I have ever done I believe. Hope to not do that again.

That does seem low even if she was a common looking calf. Did you see her sell? She could have gotten hurt at the stockyards and shown a limp in the ring or maybe she got excited and acted wild. Though, usually on that size feeders the disposition doesn’t get that much dock.

I did not see her sell, but I did call the barn and they pretty much told me that’s what 500 pound heifers have been bringing. I told him the sale report from another local barn from the day before was much higher, and he said that report wasn’t worth a flip.

We are a long ways apart but..... I watched a big feeder sale at Toppenish on Tuesday. 500 pound heifers were a solid $1.30. I bought a dozen 450 pound heifers yesterday a La Grande. Paid $1.33. Even with the distance I seriously doubt that they are worth nearly double up here. If that is the case we need to buy up several truck loads and ship them up here.

I've seen that for short fat heifers. What sale barn was this if you don't mind?

I just checked the sale report from our closest stockyards that we usually sell at. Heifers there medium to large 500-550 lbs ranged from $1.10-1.17 and the value added ones of same weight range $1.20-1.25.
