Some folks may find this interesting. A heifer and a bull, each weighing 60 lb. Born 12-22-05. One sired by my Red Angus bull, one sired by my Black Angus bull. Twins. A gray and a buckskin.

the last live twins we had were like that too. one bull and one heifer, one sired by a simmental and the other by an angus. the conformation differences were obvious as well as the coloration.

Did you keep the heifer long enough to find out if she was a freemartin or not?

That is interesting. I didn't know that could happen. Which one is the heifer?

We had 2 sets of twins this past year. One set of bull and heifer, and one set of heifers. I have been kicking around the idea of keeping both the heifers and see if they throw twins.

neither, they both sucked. the angus heifer actually had the better conformation and muscling. but they were both pretty rangey.

Beefy, I hear ya. Similar to my past experience. Hoping this time will be better. Sid, if your twin hefs grew out well and look good I think you should keep 'em.

They should grow well - I pulled one off and grafted her to a cow that lost her calf a week after the twins were born. I guess I can really guage which cow is the better producer too. The one I pulled off is solid black with a very distinct white "W" across her forehead so I call her Windy. The other calf is solid black. They are out of a hereford X cow and the Brangus bull I've posted pics of in the past.

You did the right thing there, Sid, grafting one of the calves onto that cow that lost her calf. It'll be interesting for you to see which grows better.

yeah, that never happens here. usually we lose a calf and then about 2 weeks later need a lactating cow for something. lucky for me i have bad luck or i would have none at all. Sid, is that the one that you had a hard time grafting? or was that another calf
