????????????? Are your pasture conditions poor this year? Just curious, because the cow is thin. Not sickly thin or anything, just not in good flesh. As for good looking stock, I don't see it on the cows in the top 2 pics. They're not deep bodied, have rough lines and just look like range cows at best. If their only purpose is raising beef, hopefully they do the job for you, and only you know that answer. Just my opinion, and it's directed at the cattle, not the owner.

is there some other purpose im unaware of :cowboy:

I meant if they were just range cows, not purebred stock. If they are purebred stock, some special bloodline or something, I'd say there's alot of work to do. Like I said, just my opinion.

No offence takin. Yes lots of work to do. It is more of a pasture mangement problem than anything. Poor pasture do to 25 years of neglect. I am clearing and improving as I go. As for the cows they take care of themselves. I check on them but they dont get anything but mineral and hay in winter and just poor fescue.

As for deep bodied pics are decieving when it comes to this. I do agree the first cow is nothing special. But she raises a good calf. ( felton bred cow)

So that calf nursing in the background of pic one is sired by the the Day 943 Bull?

yes

I am loading some pics but these were taken today. They are up at the mineral feeder and it is an alley for different patches of grass so there is not any grass make sense?

Jay, your camera sure alters the perspective when you take pictures close-up! You might do better taking them from farther away and editing them - which is what I'm doing with my camera, now. Pictures aside, what do you think of your 943 calf - and how is he growing?

As for the camera it is from my phone so you know how that goes.

The calf is ok just a bull that will soon be a steer. nothing special I dont think. He seems to be growing good. I didnt get any more from him. I havent decided to use him this year again on a couple or not. I have some straws from rocketts bull that I had planed on using.

Maybe I am to used to seeing cows on fescue; but they look fine to me. I would class the cows as a four BCS score (1-9 score). Not bad for a cow nursing a young calf. you want to see them gaining weight as you get ready for breeding. You don't want the cows to get bony; but there isn't any reason to keep them pigfat either.

I've always thought that 943 bull would produce better than what his EPDs indicate that he would.

George We both know that 943 will never have good numbers so that is why he wont be used more. I bought 20 straws from Stephen Pollested ( I may have spelled that wrong). He came by for a visit and brought his tank with him. I have several left just dont know what to do with them yet.I want to use him but I think I need to breed him to some stout cows that have lots of milk?

Would love to flush the Upstream cow that I seen to him, but that will never happen.

I really thought that this cow didnt stick but it has to be from the A-I as it was 3 weeks early.I can DNA test but he is destined to be a steer anyway.
