One of my favorite Americans. My Aunt lived near him when I was a kid in the late 50's. I talked to him on more than one occasion. He was above all a gentleman...and he could be a real buthole.

I loved it when I heard the story of him offering to whip a critic for saying bad things about Margarets singing.
 
I was very young at the time, but I remember the last few years of Truman's administration. He had a "Winter White House" in Key West, Florida. He was very defensive of his daughter, Margaret. There is an intersection of two streets in Key West where Margaret street crosses Truman street.

Someone opened a laundromat at that intersection and called it the "Margaret Truman Laundromat". Harry had a fit. He wanted it closed, but I think it prevailed anyway.

"Give 'em hell, Harry".
