There are big celabrations over here and in France, as it is the 90th Anniversary of 'The Somme'......The going over the top in the First World War....250 men from one regiment killed in 30 seconds...not to say how many in all. God Bless their souls.
The oldest servivor has gone over to France to pay homage he is a staggering 110 years old.
My Grandfather was lucky he came back, but won the Victoria Cross for bravery above and beond his call of duty, I am very proud of him (his memory) for that as well of a lot of other things. He carried his injured Captain to safety even though he was wounded himself. He was discharged after that as he had gone deaf with the blast of the shell that hit their trench, before they went over the top. I remember him telling me it was that, that saved his life.
