I am looking at a new 4 wheeler. What is the about the same as a Honda Rancher in Polaris, Yamaha etc.? Also opinions on these. Thanks farmguy

Dad had one, and I have bought a Polaris 500 sportsman as well. Mine is a 02. I think I bought it about four years ago. I got it hot once and warped the plastic fitting for the radiator cap/hose hookup. The cap wouldn't seal. Other than that, I've changed oil, bushings in the A arms, replaced torn boots, that's it. Runs good. I'll buy another one when this one is wore out.

I've got an '86 Yamaha that I bought used in '93 It runs just fine. It will pull the hay buggy with a round bale on it. Its not pretty and its not hi tech. Its laqsted thru a couple of daughters and now grandsons. Still going.

I had a '02 Yamaha 660 grizzly with not much to complain about, except wheel bearings. I now have a 2010 Polaris 800 Sportsman with larger tires. The weak point is that its very easy to burn a belt up in high gear. It doesn't happen to me because I will shift in low gear when the bike is under a load. I have had to replace belts thanks to my dad and kids, even after a clutch kit upgrade. They just don't seem to understand. I never had to worry about this with the grizzly. For the money though was about $3k difference between the Polaris 800 sportsman vs the 700 grizzly back in 2010.

If you are wanting to compare, in my opinion nothing compares to a Honda. It is the bar that all others are measured by.

I really like Honda's real well. Have done real well for me over the years. I do not like Polaris much they seem to set up to high and are easier to roll from my experience. Seems to me they are set up more for play than work. But that just my :2cents:

I have a '04 Honda Rancher that I bought new and have used to the limit and still going strong. I'm convinced it's unbreakable.

Was disappointed to read reviews about the Honda Pioneers. I may have sprung for one til I read about their poor power and saw videos not climbing hills. I would love to get out of any type of belt drive and want a utv.

I would go with Yamaha, built strong, and work hard. never got on very well with getting the Honda to go backwards.

You mean having to push that button to shift into reverse? An aggravating feature I agree. Beats me what the reason for it is.

Hold tight and your wish will be granted. Next month Honda is releasing a 1000 cc pioneer with a low range feature. Between the low range and 76 hp hills should not be a problem.

bring it here, I can put one of my sons friends on it, it will be shrapnel in a matter of minutes....I'm convinced he can crush ball bearings with a rubber mallet..

The sportsman 400 ETX (450cc) is similar size power to the the 420 rancher ( can get one otd for $5k new ) the new etx is fuel injected too which would be a must for me if buying a new one

the grizzly 450 would be similar in size and power, and far I as know they are still carbed and not any fifferent than than old kodiaks. The 550 and 700 grizzlys may be the best utility atvs out there imo but are pricey

the suzuki 450 kingquad is a good one too thats in the same class

One of my cousin's step-grandkids is like that. He came over here for a family get together from Savannah with my cousin and wanted a place to shoot his .22, which I'm pretty sure he doesn't get to use much often in Savannah, and I showed him a field to go shoot in and told him not shoot toward the house. I heard a lot of shots and after a while he came back and apologized for shooting my fence down. I went and looked and he had shot a 12.5 gauge high tensile wire in two which I would not have thought possible. He wanted to fix it but I declined the offer.

yep that is the one, the designer should have tried in in the mud, wet, or freezing cold.

I have never had an issue with the reverse on a honda, even with heavy gloves. But Hondas is just about all I have ever been on in the last 20 years, so that might have something to do with it.

Have the Polaris four wheeler and Mule in the shed, the four wheeler has become an obsolete piece of
equipment to me.

Sell it then.

I'd say CB is like my Dad, he'd say "it's not eating anything son". I have two in my shop and they sit most of the time now that I have a Gator.
