Was looking at a wood splitter for the tractor, but I have a question? The manuals state a 11 gpm min. for hydo supply, but the tractor only puts out 6.4 gpm. Other than a slower ram speed, is there any other things I should be aware of?? Any one else have a 3-pt splitter, are you happy with it??

I have a splitter mounted on a 2-wheel trailer axial. It is made from an "H" pile (HP 10X42) about eight feet long with a wedge welded on top of one end and an old forklift cylinder attached to the other end. It will split anything you can sit on top of it. I have picked up hickory logs, too heavy to lift, with the loader and that thing will still split it.
All you need is an old man to sit on the tractor and run the leaver with a young man picking up the logs and putting them on the "H" beam.
If someone wants more info I can post a picture in a few days.

I will try to get a pic this weekend but we are working all the cattle and moving half back to summer pasture. Shots, tattoo and warmer. I going to be busy.

I too would appreciate a picture alabama, they want too much money for those things store bought.

Good luck working the cattle!

This is where choosing to be the "old guy" will come in awful handy.

After cutting tons and tons of limestone, splitting wood seems trivial.

To answer the original question, volume will only affect the cycle speed.

I watched a guy split wood a few months ago while I was waiting at a Dr's office across the street. He was driving the cylinder the full cycle each time, as if his wood was 24 inches long, and it was only about 18 inches. He must have been getting paid by the hour.

Well sorry guys. I got the cows worked and all the calves worked exvept two that would not creap in the pins.
I did get the pairs moved to ryegrass pasture. I finished about 2:00 on Sunday but I never made it down to the lot to take the pictures. I will try this evening if I think of it.
