270 weatherby mag

For all the smart rifle folks, I bought a Winchester model 70 in 270 weatherby mag yesterday. It is in excellent condition but just has a Simmons 6-18x50 scope.
I thought I had got a deal at $400 but my buddies acted like I had went crazy. What is so wrong with the 270 weatherby mag.?

Nothing wrong with it. Ammo is kind of pricey and other then Weatherby themselves they tend to have shorter throats so you get a little higher pressures and a little lower velocitys.

Thanks dun, the rifle was in such good condition and so was the scope that I could not resist no matter the caliber.
Bought a Browning A bolt 223 today so I guess it will be easier to shoot anyway. I was at a gun show and never saw so many very very nice guns for sale with few actually selling. Everybody was carrying something around trying to sell.
I bought and sold a 22 cricket and made $25 so I think I done good. Paid for my gas to go to the show. :lol2:

It's a pretty flat shooting rifle good enough for small game up to large as elk.
Saw two at the last gun show I went to in Dallas. Both we're over $500.
If it's in good shape sounds to me like you made out like a fat rat in a cheese factory. :lol:

Ok jed i am still learning and have the blue book but I still cant tell. I am almost certain the 270 Weatherby mag was not made pre 64, How the heck do I know for sure?

Check the serial number. You should be able to look up on internet the year what serial number ranges were made.

Go by #, under 700,000 it's pre. I think 63 stoped with 500,000 and 64 started with 700,000. Just google it and it's easy to find.

Jed you are correct, but the numbers on the rifle dont make sense. It is G163841 and all I find in the book is the G plus a 7 degit number. The G makes it after 1968 so its not pre 64. What am I doing wrong?

Update, it dont matter when it was made. I sold it last night, bought it back tonight and sold it again. Darn good gun. To trade at least. HAHAHA

Heck this is easier that cow trading. And you dont even get shi? on your shoes. Most of the time anyway. I have been averaging buying 1 a day for the last two weeks.

Yep, last nights buy was a Remington 1100, 16ga. Put it in a soft case and stored it away.
Two S&W 38's last week my wife decided she liked so she put them away. Not much profit in that but sure keeps her from fussing at me for trading.
