Still starting out on my small herd.

Lucky to have a good buddy who loaned me a bull for a couple of months. Turned him in on March 1st. I won't get the most desired calving season, but I think it will work out and I'll have a barn to get any animals into if need next winter.

He is a young bull but doesn't have a lot of work cut out for him covering 5 head.

Terrible pictures I know, but I'll get a few more when I check on them in the next couple of days.

He is a registered black angus.

What's better than owning your own bull ? Having a friend/ neighbor that will loan or rent you one . 🤠

For sure, I've found/met some very good people in cattle farming.

I happen to work with this guy, he has really helped me out in a lot of ways. I'll for sure pay it forward whenever I see a chance to someone starting out.

That’s a good friend. I think he will do a good job for you. They will keep him occupied for a while. I like red cows with a black bull. You should get all black calves that sell the best at the market here in East Tennessee.

Well, we are counting down to calving the heifers out of the borrowed bull from the spring.

I think the heifers just tease you thinking they'll calf any minute because they can. Luckily mine are at the house so I can keep a pretty good lookout for them.

We have some cold weather on the way, I was hoping they would have calves on the ground by now. Bull was turned in March 1st, so gestation calendar said December 8th as the earliest possible date if they took full gestation and bull bred them basically as soon as he was turned in with them.

Heifers definitely are making bags, one in particular has as good as bag as I've seen on a heifer, but I might just have limited experience.

Hoping for no issues, but ready to help if need be. Not too worried about the 2 bred cows, they seemed to be pros last year.

You will be fine with your calving season time frame. Get them babies on the ground and post some photos.

Opened up a new pasture to the cows yesterday and let them have both so they could find a wind break out of the weather coming our way.

Noticed a heifer wondering off by herself this morning, so I went out and checked them a few hours later and sure enough caught this bull calf on the ground standing up and nursing.

Can't ask for much more than that. She had him cleaned off and nursing. No pulling or any help from us.

Going to be a cold one tonight, but he seemed pretty dry, so I think he'll make it. She took him off to another pasture not long after I tagged him.

Calf number 2 was on the ground when I got home from work today.

Another first calf heifer, no issues with calving, cleaning, and nursing calf on her own.

2/3 so far for heifers. Hope my luck stays the same with the last heifer for the year.

Calf number 3 hit the ground this morning.

Another bull, out of one of my cows. She was a great mom last year and is doing good so far this year. A little bigger calf then out of my heifers.

Got him tagged without too much of a fight.

Hope you band him also since you had him caught.

Yes, I've banded both forgot to mention that.

Been throwing them in the front seat of my little bronco 2 to keep them contained while I band them. This one was lively today.

My wife likes to play camera man. You think that looks means I got both testicles? 😂
