This first picture is my first steer. He is about 1 year old in this pic. On January 28th, he weighed 860 lbs. He is an Angus Cross Charolais.

My second steer is also 1 year old. His weight on January 28th was 920. He is an Angus Cross Gelbvieh.

This last one is my breeding heifer. Also one year old. Angus cross Charolais i would have to say. Not much else about her

Please give me some input on them so I can figure out if I need to change their feed or rinse them off more.

Lose the dang halters! PLEASE! They look ok.
Please do! Buy you a couple of rope halters...you'll find them real handy...'specially when it comes to shows.

The angus x charolais looks nice. I might like to see him exhibit a little more bone but it seems like he's got a decent muscle pattern and a pretty level topline. Not sure how much hair he's got but you might wanna get to washin him everyday. If you work the hair enough, you could pull that hair out on the legs and make 'em look beefier.

The angus x gelbvieh is alright too. Again, a little more bone um...I can't barely see anything cause the picture is kind of dark and he's got black cows behind him so it's a little hard for me to say much on him.

The angus x charolais heifer looks OK. Got a funny lookin tailhead...could just be cause the hair ain't pulled up right. Might be she needs just a better placement on her tailhead. Um...same thing, bone. Are these all out of the same bull? If so, I'd try to find somethin that could put a little more bone in these show cattle. On all of em, I recommend you rinse them everyday and shampoo about once a week to get that hair workin nice for you so that when you get to fitted shows (or even blow and gos) you can get the hair to look the way you want. If you can get the hair growin on those legs, it might could place you a little higher come show time.

First of all, at the time these pictures were takin, we were halter breaking them! I know that some of you will put down this method but it works for us. We put these halters on and let them drag their ropes so they learn to stop. My first year doing beef we used the rope halters but the way they were made didn't work. They would tighten so we don't use those. And remember, these cattle aren't like club calves. They are out of my family's herd. They weren't origianlly intended for show but they do fine. And PLEASE note that I have been only doing this for 6 years and I am only 14.

Don't put your pictures up and ask for comments unless you want some critical comments.

I think your calves are okay. Depends on where you are planning on taking them. It is impossible to make a relible statement on the overall quality of these calves with only these pictures to judge from. However since you've aksed and based on the pictures, I think they will probably do okay in a smaller county show. I doubt they will be competitive in a large national show. Please understand, I'm basing this only on these pictures, which probably don't do these calves justice.

The charlais x steer would be my first choice. I'd forget about the second steer and the heifer. This is based solely on the pics I had to look at.

I could disagree with you SF. The hfr is in a terrible pose, but from what I can see it looks like she could possible be the best animal of the three. Really can't judge any of them very well.

We could both be right or wrong. A pic is hard enough to judge from and a bad pic is much worse.

They are not perfect, but I think that they will do fine, with work and it would help to also get some different pictures with them standing correctly will help as well. Also, as I was once told, one can not always have the best of quality, but they can make the most of what they have to work with. Good Luck! :D

Don't get sarcastic. You guys ask for help and then don't like what you hear. You want advice; take it. If you don't; don't ask for it.

they all look pretty average. nothing really stands out to me. just oh,kay. that heifer has to have something besides angus and charolais in her to have white feet like that. same goes for teh second steer, didnt get white on his face from angus OR gelbvieh.

Lousy pics - nothing rings my chimes here.

Look - go out and have fun - sell them for lots of money and go again - best of luck.

Bez!

Sure do not see any sarcasm? Sounds like Lauren said "they are not great but will do, now go have fun and make them the best you can even if they are not the best quality"!

I think you might be getting "Mad Caustic Disease" Or "Mad Maw Disease"

Might be best that you have someone help you read the post and explain the big words to you before you comment!

Cowboy, member she is from Colorado, around here in texas we do stuff differently!! The halters do got to go. I've been doing this stuff for about 4 years now and i run (TJLA) every weekend just about and if we were to have those halters, we would be the talk of the day with both those calves and halters!!

Don't get mad at me because you can not tell the difference of a person being sarcastic and giving good encouraging advice!

For real go back and read What LaurenE wrote and try to find the Sarcasm in it! I am serious I think you ate some tainted Beef or something!

If you do not understand what someone is saying it might be better you do more listening and less talking!

whoa!! calm down!! I say do what works for you when it comes to halter breaking...no need to get all upset when someone gives you the advice you asked for!! It all depends what types of shows you go to. at our local shows, there are a lot of kids who go to HUGE shows and spend thousands on a calf that they make nothing on... I have found that picking a calf out of the family's herd for a small county show will bring in the greatest profit!!!!!! As far as your calves- I would have to say my favorite would be the first angus x charlois. But reguardless of how you do just have fun and learn from every year you show....at this point in the game, thats whats important

la4angus I went a head and posted LaurenE's post again for you above in case you do not know how to use the scroll back button!

There has been a lot of talk on here lately about people pushing away new members such as LaurenE and this is a perfect example of some Cynical old know it all, speaking when he should be listening! Now as your homework assignment for the day go analyze the above comment and find the sarcasm in it! I would love to know were it is?
