Hey everyone... I am selling my 2 year old quarter/paint filly. She is about 15.1hh and has not been started under saddle. She has some nice horses in her bloodlines like Three Bars, Classy Bar, and Shujet (I even found Man O War but that was somewhat far back). How much do you think she is worth? Here is a picture...

Horses are like trucks: If it will start and drive it is worth at least $1,000.

On other hand, significant sire/dam and/or grandsire/granddam will add to value as well as registration. Trained "safe" under saddle adds more value. Breed is another factor as is location, location, location. Also consider horse's age as another variable. Whatever these "options" cost and/or worth will help determine the selling price or market value (what someone is willing to pay for the horse (or truck), not what you think it is worth.

I would say what she is worth would mainly depend on your area. In the area where I live I doubt if you could give her away. The fact that she is not broke is going to cost you as well. I would imagine that her age is also going to be at least a partial detriment as she is still somewhat young. She does appear to be a very nice filly, though. Also appears to have a laid-back temperament as she seems to be napping. lol

I don't know you're location but I do know that in my area that horses are being sold very cheap at this moment. The lack of rain this summer has hurt so many. And horse folks are paying much more for hay, and are even getting it from dealers that get it trucked in from other states. Try to get her broke and maybe add a little riding time on her......it will help. You might get her broke and just decide to keep her. ;-)

Good luck....

Hi SilverCharm,

I too think she is a nice looking filly, I have a couple of questions for you and some suggestions.

First the questons:

1. Is she registered with both the American Quarter Horse and American Paint Horse registries, or is she a breeding stock Paint?

2. While it sounds like she has some nice bloodlines and looks like a nice filly, some of the lines you mentioned are older lines do you have anything any closer? ie; Three Bars is a 1940 foal.

Now the suggestions, to me she looks like she has a nice head and neck, I like the shoulder very much and can't tell too much about the hip. But she looks pretty well balanced, and well muscled for a two yr old. If you decided to post a picture of her when you sell her you may want to brush her mane to the off side to show off her neck better, a good neck is a sign of a nice moving horse, good balance (different type of balance than mentioned before, the first type is she is put together evenly). The second is stand her up with all four feet under her better too show off her hip better, in the picture her leg is behind her so you can't tell what type of hip (engine that drives the horse) she has.

You have received some good advice from others, and I agree with most of what was said. But remember if you have, lets say a $2000 horse now and you spend $1500 to get her started and able to ride so now she is worth $3000 to $3500 don't spend the money just sell her as she is.

Your area has alot to do with how much she is worth, but if you can answer my two questions I will give you a better idea of what I think she is worth.

I noticed that as well.

We decided to send her off to the trainers for two months. Thanks for all of your comments!

Oh and Alan the only reason I mentioned Three Bars is because he was the sire of many horses in her pedigree. She is not registered but we have everything for her to be registered. If we did, she would be with the AQHA and APHA.
