1st Calf Heifers off and running!

Help Support CattleToday:

6 of the 15 heifers I bought with March 1st due date calved last night and this morning. AI'ed to Quaker Hill Upper Cut. Two calved way early so only 7 more to go. Heifers are doing well so far. I'd expect a few more today and in the morning then will be only waiting for a few bull breed heifers to calve.IMG_5231.jpeg

Somewhat depends on the breed but I use 16-18 months personally.
I agree with you. 16-18 for British or Continental Bos Taurus. For bos indicus, better let them get to 22-24 months. I never saw why people want to get in such a hurry, anyway. Then they wonder why, if she has a live calve with no problem, heifers reject, or even try to kill their calves. Or not have milk.

AI'ed a group of home grown heifers due to start calving April 12th and "stole" some other partially AI'ed heifers due to start calving March 1st. Pretty happy how they are performing so far. Mothering up well which is good to see. 15 down another 18 to go. View attachment 41458

Those are top notch for sure! Especially like the ones with some white on em.
Just a touch more ear and they'd be PERFECT! 🤭
