Raising Sim Ang x cattle. This year have some 1/4 Sim 3/4 heifers to breed. Like to know if anyone has suggestion for new blood. Live in CO so probably cattle with some "ear" won't work. Thanks

Use an Angus with a different bloodline, that will continue the growth and quality factors.

I have to agree with la4-- if these are heifers, I'd use a low BW angus bull at least for the first year...After that if you want to throw in a new breed- I'd go with hereford if you are planning on retaining some heifer calves...Some of the best cows I ever raised were 1/2 angus 1/4 Hereford 1/4 simmi...

<chuckle> Well you're getting a pile of different breeds, so I'll stuff my Shorthorn recommendation in here. I've got some 1/2 Simm, 1/2 Angus cows out there that I bred as heifers to an easy calving Shorthorn bull and I was VERY happy with the results. A Red Poll would definitely be my second choice.

I have to agree.....Shorthorn or Red Poll

Find a low BW, low BW EPD SimmAngus bull.

Don't go Angus, they will then lose nearly all the heterosis.

DEPENDING ON YOUR SITUATION YOU COULD GO ANOTHER CROSS OF EUROPEAN, HOW ABOUT GELBVIEH, THEN COME BACK ON THE RESULTING PROGENY WITH BRITISH.
