    Large vs. Small Round Bales

I've been considering this same question. I like the 5' bales because it saves me trips when i"m hauling them in, I don't have to feed as often and I "think" there's less waste. I like the 4'ers because I don't use all of my hay and their easier to haul legal. With that said, I still haven't...

    Buzzards/Turkey Vultures

I drive thru Lewis and Upshur Counties a good bit and I live in Barbour, I've seen a few of them since the article, never saw one before, or so i thought  . We just had our second calf today so I'm really on the lookout for them now ;-) . We've got an Australian Shepard but she's turned...

Here's the link, first time i've ever posted one, so I hope it works :D It does sound like you're talking about the same bird, just be cautious especially if you read the next to last paragraph  http://www.wvagriculture.org/market_bul ... 9-pg-4.pdf

    Pipeline Easement

If they come back here's something to think about. About 15 yrs ago they got an easement from my dad for a transmission line. He ended up with 2 gas taps (I believe 250mcf) and another one that the gas co gave to the church. They also ran the line just off of our line fence and about every 2-3...

Always heard "wear it out, use it up, make it do or do without!" :D

    Round Bale Feeders

This seems to be the route I'm on now, rings with skirts. As to the 2x day feeding, when I was little we fed twice a day(small squares) as much as they'd clean up. I think the cows looked better then but they sure were a lot bigger :D oh but what a PITA, that's one reason I'm doing rounds...

    Round Bale Feeders

Sounds like the plan for me, probably using rings w/ skirts, just smaller scale. SRBeef; thanks, that does look like a sturdy unit that could be easly moved which I believe will be critical here. Thanks for everyones input, it really helps me to toss ideas around :D

    Round Bale Feeders

That's what i'm looking for Feeder that reduce waste :D yea, if left the feeder in the same spot i'd never be able to fill it, it get's pretty muddy here when it thaws out! I don't need the unroller, just head it down the hill and watch out for the fences. I watched my neighbor unroll them...

    Round Bale Feeders

Thanks for all the input, I now think I'll get the skirted ring and plan on trying to build something like Chippie's pic shows. I inherited the farm, 78 acres 1/2 bottom land and the other half hills and rocks. Figured I'd better get ready for the cows so I spent all summer repairing fences and...

    Round Bale Feeders

I've done a quick search but haven't really found anything on this and I need help from the experienced. I just bought 10 cow/calf pairs and I'm getting ready to buy a round hay bale feeder ring but now I'm stuck. I was just offered a "hay saver" type feeder, it has a solid bottom and a cone to...

    Ya'll Be Careful!

Be very careful with the dogs when it's calving time. My 72 year old Dad was out one night checking on a cow that had just had her calf. As usual his dog went along. The cow went after his Australian Shepherd (Usually a great cow dog) but the dog ran behind Dad. The cow just plowed through Dad...
