    First Time Weaning

Hopefully I can get mine under control. I got one bull calf that's the biggest baddest looking calf and he's the biggest baby. He's busted out twice and crys all night. Hes tore up my fences pretty good. The rest don't even follow him out. The mommas have free range of the place so it's not...

    Starting a New Ranch

There's land to be had for decent prices in east texas but none of them are gonna be advertised. There was 50 acres for sale a mile down the road from me I thought I'd be wasting my time to even talk price on and it ended up asking price was $1500 an acre.... it had a very small easement road...

I just bought 31 bags of cubes from tractor supply for $210 and change. There was a couple busted bags that were still mostly full I got for half price plus coupons and bulk discounts. That comes out to about $6.75 a bag. The bags say all natural but who knows for sure. Dayton farm and ranch...

    SQ injection bleeding.

I was vaccinating my small herd today with my wifes help. Normally I have a buddy that grew up with cows operating the chute and giving the injections and wormer but he's tied up for a while so I figured what the heck me and the wife can do it. I was giving them triangle 10 SQ and everything was...

    cattle cube storage ideas

I actually have an old deep freeze in the barn! That sounds like the ticket right there! I thought about those 275 gallon totes but if i cut the top off I figured mice would be able to get in it. If I left it where they couldn't get in I wouldn't be able to get the feed out....

    cattle cube storage ideas

Man a bucket liner is a really good idea! I work for the light company and they change out the liners all the time and I can try and get one the only thing is what I would cover it with. We have bucket covers but it just has elastic around the edges but it might work.

    cattle cube storage ideas

That many cubes lasts me 6 months or more. I feed it more for keeping the cows cube broke than for actual nutrition. The time my cows got out they made it a good ways down the road. When I went to get em I just opened a bag put it on the back of the ranger and they followed me all the way home...

    cattle cube storage ideas

I always wait till tractor supply has a sale going on and buy a ton or 2 of cattle cubes for real cheap and put em up in my barn but the mice have been getting worse and worse and the traps and poison don't seem to be knocking em out either. I've been trying to think about something I could...

    Are Heifers to small?

Man there's no telling. She's got some scurs no horns. She's crazy as hell though, I think she's part whitetail. When I bought the place the previous owner said it was easier to just leave her on here than fix all the fences shed tear down trying to catch her.

    Are Heifers to small?

Man that's the cow catcher 9,000! Haha. I had a wild cow I wanted to catch but from a dead stop shell jump over a 5 ft fence so I figure if I made this one taller she wouldn't try it. But now I can't get her to go inside the pens.....

    Are Heifers to small?

Man I was watching the bull and his back legs seemed a little stiff walking around. I checked his gait before I loaded him up and he was fine. He was in the trailer for about 6 hours and about 200 miles. He stood up the whole time. I did have one time when a log truck pulled out in front of me...

    Are Heifers to small?

Well I came home with a registered angus bull. The guy I bought him from was the coolest guy ive ever bought anything from off the internet. The bulls grand sire is Bon View New Design 1407 and the guy told me he breeds and AIs specifically for LBW, CE, milk and HYW. He said hes never had to...

    Are Heifers to small?

Man I'm glad. I felt like they still had plenty of time to grow, but once more than one person told me they were small I was nervous I got ripped off.. I think most of the guys saying they are small are used to seein 3-4 year old cows and selling their calves when they are less than a year old...

    Are Heifers to small?

I bought 3 black baldy heifers a year ago that everyone seems to think are miniature..... When I bought them I saw the hereford cows that they came from and they were all plenty big and the guy said that he used a angus bull he borrowed. I measured them at the hip for frame score and they are...

    help deciding on a headgate.

Well it appears to be foot operated.... Haven't seen it in person yet. Was headed out there today and found out it was Columbus day and couldn't get any cash. Here a picture it looks like it has a foot pedal to me. I only have 6 head right now and plan to have a total of 10 for breeding stock...

    help deciding on a headgate.

I found a company called E&W squeeze chutes. they seem really reasonably priced at $1850 for a brand new squeeze chute. has anybody used or heard of them? I searched around but couldnt find any reviews on them. I like that you can completely open them up outwards so it wouldnt be in the way when...
