Which is more profitable? Beef or dairy?

Better read the complete definition of Organic. The writer's of what Organic 'rules' left enough wiggle room in that you could interpret it anyway you want.

    Are you working the system?

I was fortunate to use all these years of low interest to my advantage. I have always had to self fund everything from buying the land, to the ponds, Buildings, fencing, and used cows. I agree with @TexasRancher; I know there is a correction coming. I know that it is going to affect my soon to...

    Hot Wire Training

37 yrs. I didn't even remember. Until.. but, it taught 2 grandkids to observe the fence! Kinda like, 1 Boy Scout can train a whole pack NOT to pee on a fence!

    What improvements are you making?

I feel like I am right behind you. I tell the wife, "have to do it now, and do it right, while I'm still getting around." -Multiple back surgeries-. The kids can worry about it the next time.

    What improvements are you making?

Fencing, still. Bought the place and have been learning how to install. I think that hat I have found every way a barb can getcha, and every way a Bois d' Arc limb can stab ya. I have to cut back trees to get to the fence. Then, I will start on corrals, next winter? . I have @GoWyo issue...

    Starting Up with Cattle

It's old, the advice is the same. Wish I more debt in more land. I wonder if he ran with it.

    Cross fencing

@WFfarm @Lee VanRoss and others. Moved the electric fence Sat. Yep, the cows came skipping into the fresh area. Also, moved the posts back 3' so maybe they will mow those weeds. Now I have another question. The local market prefers Angus. This little guy is about 3 months. Looking to...

    Cross fencing

Update! Cows were still behind the electric fence. Eggcellent! Wife wants her own tester. She insisted on checking for power before we left. She jumped. 🤣. Thanks for the advice. Please don't hesitate in the future. This is how we learn.

    Cross fencing

Added 'stays' while I was out. Lazy way. 1st set I bought I had to put points on n them. Second set come with a point. Much easier than T-posts.

    Cross fencing

Well. Nice hot do to do this. Only 600' so it went fast. Before someone says anything, I checked with the cows. Nope, they didn't care if the fence was straight or not. None of the grandkids would come check the wire for me. I think that their Mom got to them 1st. Years ago I played...

Roger that. Appreciate the info. I Forget the name of the Solar Energizer, I bought it yrs ago. Just replaced the battery. I have driven 2 - 6' ground rods. May add 1 more. Using water, it only takes 5 min. ea. Not bad. Yes - shopped Gallagher: fiber posts, I did sharpen the 4" metal peg...

    Cross fencing

So. A couple of my local advisors have been telling me to cross fence my small acreage. I didn't feel the need to spend time n trouble to spend the money and time. BUT, someone her mentioned specifics. That by crossfencing the cows were force to eat less desirable grasses, and would trample...
