Exactly, when they pay my bills I'll follow their orders and abide by their suggestions. Until then, I'll listen or read the suggestions, and completely ignore the orders.

    what cattle do not like?

They don't like being hungry or thirsty, either of those will guarantee them looking for greener pastures or a water source. Start there, and yes, I know this thread is 3 years old.

    Are you working the system?

Do you have an accountant? Ask them...trust me, they know o4r at the very least will check. My accountant and I have grown up together since we were 6 and have been friends since our early teens. He usually asks after he's done how I pulled it off. My thoughts are living off a cash flow and...

    Are you working the system?

Other than the major corporations and industrial military complex, is there are more protected industry than the agriculture industry in the US? Yes, I'm trying to stir the pot, but you really do have to ask yourself if you're really taking advantage of the programs that are available to you...

    Fsa idemity program...need advise!!

Yes, send them that picture. If they're paying you because it's a predator, I'm pretty sure even a government employee will understand that predators kill things and then eat them.

Thank you, the info is great. Not really having calving issues, but are you saying your HP has gone up or maybe improved. Not having issues, but don't want to run into them either. Thanks for all the info you've provided...it's been really helpful.

Noob to Angus cattle and EPDs

Ok, so it's slow for me know and I went to the sales site and AAA's pedigree/EPD site and found some, not a whole lot but some bulls that fit these parameters. Granted I don't get to see them in person, but I can find them with the .5 or less DMI, with a +.8 range YH. Is there such a thing as...

Thanks for the explanation, it makes a lot more sense to me now. It's interesting that many of those lower dmi bulls also tend to higher hp and cem, maybe just coincedence, but it seems to me that is the case. The other things you pointed out in your earlier post made a lot of sense, I just...

Thanks, this is very interesting. I've never paid attention to dmi, could you explain how it would help or it's effects better than "dry intake after weaning", which is basically what the explanation is by AAA. Thanks again.

Your honesty is much appreciated, not too many people would actually post that info. Also, one thing I have noticed on here is there are some posters that are very direct, but don't take it personally, they don't know you, you asked and they're actually trying to help.

If we're being honest, how many people do you think chase the CED,WW and YW at the expense of just about everything else. That doesn't make too much sense to me when you're in a cow calf operation. What does make sense to me is to get good maternal traits, obviously that fit your environment...

Just out of curiosity, if you went to one of the purebred Angus bull sales, what would you expect to spend for a bull? Is $3000 enough, too much or???
  17. P

Noob to Angus cattle and EPDs

Right, except when you go to the bull sale they're selling 1 and 2 year old bulls and they have, generally, exactly 0 progeny to base your selection on. Basically you have to keep in mind you're buying expected results not actual results.

Noob to Angus cattle and EPDs

I'll go back to my original post and ask again what is most important to you? If I'm reading this right it's to get productive cows that raise you a good big calf every year, on time that you can sell or take replacements from. Maybe make a list in order of importance to you and then go on a...

Noob to Angus cattle and EPDs

The reason I bring it up in this case is I live at 4500 feet, so PAP means a lot to me...it might not to many...but I really don't want to buy a bull, bring him home and him have a heart attack on his first mount...talk about a bad way to go...
