    RingWorm

A vet once told us that a goat will drive ringworm away. Something in the manure. For all I know he may be crazy though. Anyone else hear of the goat remedy.

    VET NEEDED OR GURU ADVISE!!

Bama, After a long day that one made me laugh. Had a cow that came from the same bloodlines. We had to keep her in a silo so she would stay on the farm.

    Animal welfare rules are coming

I guess I was overreacting. I am a hunter too and I agree some hunters are bad apples. Its like any other thing. Do something, bad five people will be told about it. Do something good, one person may be told. We own land and we allow some folks to hunt it. We are lucky to live in an area...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

I am sure most hunters are ignorant and don't care whatsoever about land or landowners. The same way all farmers and ranchers stink like manure when they come to town. They also drive their farm trucks and vehicles to slow, get manure and mud on the roads. You know there cattle also get out a...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

To add to that reply. With a lot of the stuff we buy now days you can see it is sold for overuse. The more we use a product. The more profit the manufacturer sees. I think many of the drugs we use are sold with directions for overuse. The same goes with the amount of antibiotics in feed...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

I know what you mean preston. We try to use as little antibiotics as possible. We have been told by our vet that anitbiotics will become ineffective with over use. The same with our family practice doctor. Then when you go to use an antibiotic you have to use one that is so strong it really...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

I am not a real expert as probably none of us are on anything. We are farmers and ranchers - The Jack of all Trades. However to help stop a problem such as this we need to be heard. Farmers seemed to be a easy group to forget before this last election. To myself it seemed to be qutie...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

I was trying to say we should give them no concessions. We need to stop it right now. Hunters, trappers and fishermen are being targeted now. We need to provide support to them. This way we won't have to fight the battles they fight right now. Preventive medicine. Stop the sickness before...

    Animal welfare rules are coming

So my last post was not taken the wrong way let me clarify. I have no problem with good common sense laws to protect animals from abuse. I do have a problem with laws made by folks who lack a real world prospective of how farms and ranches are operated.

    Animal welfare rules are coming

Rulings like these show us we need to be behind hunters, trappers, and fisherman too. Trappers and hunters are easy prey for animal "welfare" groups. However will activists be happy to stop by ending there. I highly doubt it. Farmers and ranchers will be they next target. Maybe I am just...

    Real small heifer

Good luck with her redfish. Post a picture of her and her calf. I am an eternal optimist. Let us know how she does.

    Real small heifer

Probably was a mistake. Hopefully it doesn't become yours. I just think even if she does calf ok the stress of feeding a calf would stunt her growth. You might end up with a small cow who could give you problems in the future. Just a geuss though. She may turn out. Good luck.

calf with white eyes a day after being born

Beefy, Nice to hear the calf came around. Mud, I hate it too. Seems like some cows wait for dry weather to end then calve.

Cows condition dropping quickly (just weaned her calf)

Have you ever had a case of Jhones in your herd. I saw some dairy cattle that did...bad thing. Does she have bad diahrea. That could be a sign. Maybe she got some bad mastitis when she stopped being nursed on. Hopefully she just weaned a great big calf and milked her heart out. Good luck...

    Real small heifer

I hope she was breed to a calving ease bull! Take her to an auction and buy a bigger one. That is my opinion. If you have a dead heifer and a dead calf you lost more money than you would selling her, getting a poor price and buying a new one at a high price. Good luck with whatever you do...

    Syringe question

We use a similar pistol grip syringe. Our only problem was that the rubber inside rotted out. Nice to have when you vaccinate a large number of cattle.

calf with white eyes a day after being born

We still have a colostrum bagger from our dairy days. We have some fake colostrum mix we mix with mildy hot water and give this to the calf even if we think it didn't have some colostrum within first hour. Maybe you could find one of those bags to use. Just a thought and better luck next...

    Purina IM Technology

I have seen many ads for this product. Havn't heard much from producers though. Would it help steers being fed free choice corn w/alfalfa hay. I guess I would like to use it if it would help deter acidocis. We had one steer just get it and it was not a fun time. Thanks for the help.
