    micotil and LA200

OK, here is the scoop as I know it and my opinion interjected just for good measure. County fair is hard on calves. Between trucking and the stress of the week most come home with a snotty nose. I did not get the call about this calf till is was all but too late. The vet was called while I was...

    VitaFerm?

I love the VitaFerm products. All but the sure champ pellets. The pellet was big around as my little finger and the calves did not like them. The pellet did not seem to be palatable. I'll stick to the old fashioned Calf Manna like I used to use. I feed Cow Calf 5 from January thru early april...

    micotil and LA200

Anyone ever hear of micotil reacting with a dose of LA200 and killing an animal? Had a kid in my 4-H club that brought home a feeder steer from the county fair. It got sick and was dosed with micotil. I reckon the micotil wasn't working fast enough and the calf was then dosed with LA200. Calf...

    problems with pinkeye

Not sure where in PA you are but we are dry here in ohio. Most folk will not mow the pastures in a dry year and as a result they have to deal with the results. MOW YOUR BLASTED PASTURES!!!!!

    Bull or Steer?

Have a vet check the steer out. Get him to sign a paper that states his findings. Make sure is says VERY CLEARLY that the calf is a steer. Then have more than one copy on hand at the show and sale. You as the advisor need to have a copy for your records as well as the show committee chairman.

Try this link. Lots of reading from the original poster of that thread. I think DL works with Dr. Beaver. http://www.steerplanet.com/bb/index.php?topic=250.0

    frozen meds

Fridge went bad where I keep my "need fridge" meds. Cystroelin was frozen. Do I need to discard it or will it be fine if I put it in a warmer fridge to thaw to 40F?

    Sick Calf

We don't spend alot of time or money with the vet. We were able to feed her long enough to make some good eating. Only reason we knew about her lungs was because we did the butchering. Maybe you ought to try another vet, like a second opinion. My guess is you have a fair amount of money...

    Sick Calf

I'm no vet but it sounds like lung damage and the meds you give her just makes her feel better till they wear off. When they wear off, she feels sick again and "crashes". Had a holstein like that when I was growing up. Turns out that her lungs were fused to her rid cage and only half the...

    Bovishield Gold?

Wondering why you ignored the label? I don't give a vaccination except per label instructions. Should still work though. Next time read the label before you shoot your cattle with it. BoviShield Gold 5 Manufacturer Pfizer Application: IBR, Type I & II BVD, PI3, and BRSV (all MLV) Administer...

    Soy hull pellets

I wouldn't feed them to borken mouthed cows. Why are you wanting to suppliment the cows? Are you short on hay? Might want to have your hay nutrient tested than go from there with the amount of soy pellets you feed. Aroung here soy pellets are cheaper than corn.

    Banding Question

I really don't think a cherrio bander would be big enough. Wait another month and use the callicrate. Here, the co-op will rent it to you. Or find someone who knows what they are doing and have them cut him. Just stay on top of the flies. We just sold a 5 month old bull calf to a 4-Her...
