Oat hay or grass hay for heavy bred heifers ?

Non tested hay. The oat hay is lower in protein , the oat hay has more energy though.

Heifer mauling new born calves ? Injured new born

I have another possible theory. I recently had a boss cow that I culled because she was beating, charging, and chasing my cows and heifers. The crazy cow that rejected the newborn calf was her biggest target. I wonder if she just didn’t learn the charging behavior from the cow that use to...

Can’t give her away it’s a POSS Deadwood calf she should be worth some money. I doubt I will sell her now. She runs to me every time I check on her like I am her 3rd mom. I will just use this as a perfect opportunity to teach my young children (twins 6 years olds) to raise a calf and after...

Heifer mauling new born calves ? Injured new born

Ironically, the cow that is nursing both calves is the dam of the bat sh!t crazy heifer that went to the barn. It had to come from the sire side TK Driller ( Rampge generics). Maybe the Rampage docility is the culprit ?

Heifer mauling new born calves ? Injured new born

The dam of the injured calf is letting the “rejected” calf nurse. I also caught her licking the orphan. The injured calf is also standing and nursing. The injured calf is a Scale Crusher x Resource and Blackcap May 1808 :-(

Heifer mauling new born calves ? Injured new born

Yes. So far the calf has nursed 3 times. Then I put the calf with mom and watched closely. The behavior was the same.
