    Which Bull?

We're talking about 10 to 15 cows. I've got a day job and the only ai guy I know just divorced my sister in law. LOL Isnt it worth something that the first bull was sired by Doc H. ? We're looking for good grass fed beef here, not show winners.

    Which Bull?

Do you think it could be the way he's standing? His far back leg looks like it has more angle to it. So, what do you think of Doc Holliday?

    Which Bull?

Thanks for the input so far. That first bull is a son of Doc Holiday. The owner said that he didn't think that one would be any thicker than the other at maturity. Anything else I should look for if I go see them?

    Which Bull?

These might be hard to compare because they're about a year apart but they are both %Lowline bulls. First is an almost 2 year old. Next is a 1 year old 3/4 lowline 1/4 Tarentaise. There isn't a rear picture of him. I'm looking for a bull to use on unregistered Belted Galloway and a few...

    National Identification System (CCIA)

Thanks Doc! Yes, the cattle I own the guns I own, and everything else is my business and I beleive that the Federal and State governments have no right to tell me what to do with them nor demand to know what I have where it came from and where it's going. We've already lost the right to butcher...

    New hay feeding barn

So, are you going to be doing deep bedding? and then compost during the spring/summer with hogs turning it over? If you are, I'd be concerned about the outside walls too, maybe a plywood lining or something would be helpful to support the deep bedding and keep the cows off the tin.

    Young Dexter Bull

Thanks for the comments. I'm looking forward to seeing how he looks next year, and how his calves turn out. By the way, Dexters come in Black, Dun, and Red. This one and his dam are dark duns. I've got pictures of some of the cows and pasture on our photo album at...

    Young Dexter Bull

Here is his mom. He's probably only bred 2 or 3 cows so far, but my point was only that he's able too, not that he's lost condition doing so. I don't have a rear shot, but he's definitely not wide in the butt, maybe that could improve some with time too. He's neck is getting real thick and...

    Young Dexter Bull

I'm going to try and upload my first photo. This is our 14 month old Dexter Bull, Shome Braeburn. He's really short (of course) but he's been doing his job for the last few months. I think he's filling out well considering that Dexters are supposed to be a beef/dairy breed and he's never had any...

    Miniature Cattle

The link may explain it in more detail but what I meant is a Lowline Angus bull which is a breed of cattle from Australia that comes from Angus. It's a short breed about as tall as Dexter Cattle but it's much more beefy.

    Lowline Angus

I can't understand why people get so defensive and upset over smaller framed cattle. There are plenty of people that see raising meat goats as a good thing and it seems as though people are making money off of it but you want to have a bull that's only 47" tall and all of the sudden you're...

    Quality of the meat?

I'm NO expert but I believe that Aberdeen Angus became very well respected for the animal it was and for it's beef. They were/are black and this has led to a higher price for them..... this eventually led to a higher price for any black animal in the hopes that it had some Angus in it... The...

    Real Breeders

Rob actually married my cousin a number of years ago so I've had a few conversations about cattle with him at family weddings and stuff this year. I don't really know too much about his operation though.

    Real Breeders

Any opinions on Candy Meadows farm in Tenn.? They raise both Angus and Herefords. Anyone been to their sales or have any of their animals?

    Miniature Cattle

I've got 7 Dexters, which I guess are Medium Mini's... cause they aren't really that small. I'd like to cross some Dexters someday to a Lowline or mostly Lowline bull. Do you have any experience with this?

Sure you can sell the beef to the customers. It's not as easy as selling a side and letting them take control of it at the processors, but I know it can be done because we've bought beef and pork this way. You must take the animal to a butcher/processor that is USDA inspected and not just state...

If that's the test, Dun, then my job as a draftsmen is a hobby too. Cause I spend way too many hours here for not enough pay. Got to admit, the health ins. is pretty good though. :-)

Eat Beef, I probably fit pretty well into your Hobby Farmer def. right now. I'm trying to be pretty open to listening to other people but I do want to do things different. The way we got started (we're still starting) is that we have a small family farm that is rented out and we wanted to try...

So is it the making money part that makes you a farmer (I agree with that). Or is it the enjoying it part that makes you a "hobby farmer"? The way I look at it, I'm a "hobby rancher" with my horses because they don't even begin to make money but in time I hope to be a farmer.... selling food to...

I went back and read some of your past posts and can already tell, I better keep my mouth shut if I don't want to get into an argument. Why do some people have to be jerks?
