    in my cows avg age is 5 years old,i have noticed when one has the 100 plus pound calves, 90% of my open cows is one of those cows ,so in my herd the 80 to 90 weights work best here on a total income basis.

    I have used their bulls and still do,gentle ,high performing ,calves are good out of mixed breed cows ,but our birth weights are high,on our 5 and 6 year old cows calves weigh on avg. 100 plus pounds.

    Mike if purebreds gained better on grass with no grain supplement then every one should raise purebreds ,but as a whole im not pick and choosing animals the crossed cow will kick out more pounds than a purebred ,ive tried purebreds of many breeds including charolais and none weaned more percent...

    if your just getting started in raising cattle ,and grass fed at that why do you want a registered animal ,the crosses will out do any purebred on grass ,and for sure here in the south.

    highest bw on "big name bulls"

    i know of many bulls that have a 80 or 85 on birth weight ,then you breed your commercial cows to them and end up with 120 weights, so im wondering how many birth weights are guessed rather than scaled.

    2 year old bull

    Cant tell what the calves would be like by just looking at a picture,just ultra sound several yearlings and the worst put together animals sometime had the largest ribeye,and marbled very well . had several bulls myself that i was not proud of but were good producers and sired good calves.

    All of our cattle live on grass,No meal,No corn ,only hay as a supplement.And they perform very good ,just killed a 21 month old steer off rye, clover and has gained over 4 pounds per day since November dressed 761 lbs. Heifers calve as two year olds and have to wean a good calf or they are gone .

    Mike,i think its the most rain weve had since last years big storms,,,bullpeddler,i was through texas early summer places west and south of San Antonio dry as it gets,here it was only through the summer ,not extended like there ,but still long enough to kill the pastures

    41 exposed 39 bred ,60 days with the bulls,13 and 14 months old when bulls were turned in ,now only if the prices rebound.
